Stargazing is, in my opinion, one of the most magical things to do. this year i got two chances to do so: 1 in southwestern Utah with some friends from university. i saw the Orion Nebula.
the other was probably coolest and most moving. i was in the middle of lake Shasta. me and my 7 year old cousin sat on the top of a house boat for about an hour and half. she asked about the stars and told her all i could remember. it was very moving. later that night the other folks on the boat came up and we all (10 of us) sat there making up constellations and just enjoying the view.

You’ll need:
a bottle of port
a fleece blanket
a hill top
and a wonderful boy that you’re just getting to know
you don’t really need to know which constellations are which, because he already does, and he’ll rest his head next to yours so when he points you’re looking at the same thing. You don’t need to tell him that it’s all a little blurry from the port, but when you bury your face in his sweet-smelling neck he’ll get the idea. And when he drives you home, he may just kiss you good-night for the very first time, slowly, and starting with your hands.
at least, that’s the way it should be done.

growing up in chicago,
there wasn’t many stars to
look at. Now that i’m in this
miniscule town it’s completely different.
I was riding my bike around midnight, looked
up and WOW. I could not stop staring.

Yesterday, as I came home from rehersal, I gazed upon the sky, and just.. stopped breathing. I could see so many stars! You find yourself strangely small when you look at the stars.

this past summer my best friends and I lay down under the stars in one of their backyards, and we found the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper, saw some falling stars and even attempted to count all of them haha. There’s just something amazing about gazing at places so much bigger than yourselves with some of the people you cherish most. You think alot. The air all around me was filled with summer heat and that beautiful companionship between you and those who you know and love so well. :) Absolutely you have to do this sometime in your life, but the best part comes from doing it with loved ones. so dooo it!

It’s so amazing to be looking up there and knowing these pinpoints of light are utter worlds. I want to get out there and do it again.

I went stargazing with some of my friends during a recent camping trip.
I used to know all sorts of constellations, but I’ve gotten quite rusty. It doesn’t really help that I’m used to looking at constellations from the city. Out in the wilderness, it’s much darker and you can see far more stars – and thus I had a hard time picking out the few constellations I do know!
Instead, my friends and I decided to come up with our own constellations. I found a gnome’s head with a pointy hat (actually looks kind of like a lopsided pentagon) and another friend found a shopping cart. just after I pointed out my gnome’s head to my friends, we saw a shooting star go right through my constellation! Well, guess the gnome’s dead now.
We saw a few more shooting stars that night too. Good times.

I live in central Pennsylvania, (aka the ridge and valley region) right in the heart of the Appalachians. Ridges all around to be had. So on Sunday night my friend Katy and I traversed to the top of Jack’s Mountain (they’re all called mountains even though they’re ridges) to go stargazing. To be so far away from any light pollution and so much closer to the stars made it breathtaking.
Stargazing puts things into perspective. You realize how small and insginificant your own life is, but yet just how truly unique and special and wonderful you really are. It’s such an amazing experience.
