I just need to practice more, I haven’t practiced for a few months. :(

Longer term... 3 weeks ago

I’m another one who played in high school then let it go. I really love music and want to get back to it after I am done with school, which should be two springs from now.

Want to take this up again 3 months ago

I played from age 10 to 16 when I got fed up with it as I was studying GCSE music and it wasn’t fun anymore. I seem to be hearing violins a lot in the music I’ve been listening to lately and I’ve been missing it so I’m thinking about starting again. Will require an electric violin though so that I can practice without getting shouted at, which was part of why I quit in the first place.

I played the violin for 8 years. When i had my first son i stopped to concentrate on him. Everytime I hear a violin I can actually picture the notes that are being played just by ear. I really want to pick up a violin again and just listen to myself make music.

Oh! beat up, rented violin... How I miss thee! 11 months ago

In fourth grade I decided I wanted to take violin lessons at school because it was pretty and that meant violin class instead of boring regular music class on Wednesdays. Well, I ended up getting frustrated by the lack of personal attention and became unmotivated. Later in the year however, I began to actually practice when I was supposed to and to try to figure things out on my own. I got really into it and even thought about doing it professionally because I figured at that age I had plenty of time to get to that level. Sadly, though, the next year my mother told me I wouldn’t be able to play violin because she, as a single mother, couldn’t afford to rent the violin any longer. :( I don’t think I ever told her that I had thought of becoming a professional. That I desperately wanted to improve… maybe it was for the best though. All my other grades had began to fall down a steep slope because I had become so focused on my violin. She told me I’d be able to pick it back up in middle school if I wanted. Mere placation. She wanted me to play the flute, anyway.
Since then, every time I’ve seen someone playing my heart just wrenches. I really miss it. I’m going to buy myself one as soon as I can. :D

aquifer is working on it

couple of months perhaps 12 months ago

i stopped when i got into college and realized i no longer had time to study both piano and violin and have time for academics and sports. (overachiever, initially) so i dropped violin after 11 years. damn near broke my heart doing it, but my roommate couldn’t stand the noise. i figured playing a violin is probably around the same as riding a bike. once you know how to do it, you’ll never forget. so now i’m soon to graduate and i’ll have time to pick it up again, hopefully, without the aggravated neighbors. going to need a hell of a lot of practice to get back to where i was though.

I can start doing this soon 14 months ago

I’ve been living in flats in London for the past 15+ years and sound travels so far and not everyone likes to hear practice. I’ve also been ill for all this time and although not fully recovered I’m better than I was.

Next week we’re moving to our own house and I won’t have to worry about the neighbours as long as I keep the windows shut ;)

I won’t be able to play for hours like I used to (I don’t have the time for a start but also don’t have the energy) but I’m looking forward to seeing what I remember after all this time.

There are others? 18 months ago

It makes me sad to think I was not the only one who played the violin, stopped playing and want to play again. Call it naivety, but there you go.

I played the violin from 8 – 19 years of age and gave it up. I was in an auto accident and broke my left wrist which made my once lovely playing sound not so lovely.

I miss the violin and decided to tell perfectionist tendencies to bugger off and want to take it up again.
