Ever since I saw the Lion King when I was 5-years-old I’ve always wanted to go a safari and see real african animals in the wild. Going to a zoo is not going to cut it! I also just want to go to Africa
How to go on a safari
It made me
feel pampered 
"A monkey stole my banana in South Africa!"
How I did it: I had a sister studying in South Africa and a couple of parents who took the both of us on a road trip to rival all road trips.
We utilized a travel agency and as a result were treated like royalty. 5 star hotels including a villa on an ostrich farm, a tree house, a Victorian era home, and Kings Camp in the Timbavati Preserve where our safari took place.
Lessons & tips: If you plan on staying in Africa for an extended stay do the safari last! It is a great last impression and very relaxing way to spend time before an insanely long flight back to the states in my case.
Bring a good book! Safari tours go out in the morning and in the evening leaving ample time in the afternoon to lounge without a television. Getting up early is part of it.
Oh and be of moderate mobility. (Being able to climb in and out of a jeep is mandatory and there is a LOT of off-roading in the Timbavati to get close and personal with the animals. (If you go to Kreuger National Park you are restricted to the roads giving you great views, however at further distances)
Bring lots of memory cards for your camera and follow camp rules! They are for your safety!
Go in December. It is summer in Africa and is quite enjoyable. PS it was amazing to have Christmas dinner amongst the animals
Keep in mind that after going on safari and being that close to the animals in their natural habitat you will never want to go to a zoo ever again. If you do, you will start with the "when I was on safari...." stories and likely receive dirty looks from your friends and small children.

i would just love to go on a safari and be close to all those wild animals. I don’t know why because i’m a big scardy cat, but i would just love to go.

I want nothing between me, my camera and the eyes of wild animals… well maybe a Jeep. How I dream of taking a safari and experimenting true nature at its most beautiful moment.

Theres something about being in natural habitats that bring you alive. I was in South Africa 5 years ago and visited Sun City. When we was leaving my partner suggested we go in to the Pelansburg Game Park. We drove around watching the wildlife and counting the BIG 5. We stopped on a path to watch a herd of elephants head to the waterhole on our left and from the right came a huge white Rhino through the growth taking out trees with his tusk. Not only was I petrified I was in awe that such a creature could be so close to us. As he walked towards the car I urged for us to move but my partner said he would charge if we startled him so I told the kids to be really quiet and he just meandered around the back of the car, he took no notice of us whatsoever and headed to the waterhole down the path. It was so amazing. We didn’t see any cats so we went to the Lion Park near Jo’burg and drove into large pens with lions, and also there was some small pens you could walk into with cubs in and we all held them, it couldn’t have been better. Never forgotten that trip and would love to go back to Africa and do a proper safari.

My friend and her family are all from South Africa, and invited me to go on a trip there with them in the summer of ‘10!!! I’m so excited I could pee my pants!

Hubby and I went on a short excursion to the Masai Mara in Kenya, where we saw 4 of the Big 5 (lion, elephant, water buffalo and rhino) and tons of other wildlife such as hippo, croc, baboon, hyena, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, ostrich, kudu, springbok, and much more as well as many birds. It was a wonderful experience and I would definitely repeat it if given the opportunity.
