sew more often

I used to love to sew. But like most other hobbies it got pushed out of the way because I didn’t have the time. I would like to start working on different sewing projects again. It’s just like anything else in my life I just need to set aside some time to work on it.

In my teens and twenties, I made everything, from coats to underwear, including swimwear (there was a high-end swimwear fabric mill down the street!). Haven’t sewn garments for years, but think about it several times a week. I design stuff in my head, but never settle down enough to make anything. I’ve recently made 2 beautiful (if I say so myself) double-sided, pieced aprons, from brilliantly colored quilting cottons. Gave one to a girlfiend, who told me I could sell it for at least $50. The colors in the aprons really got me going about the sensual nature of fabric again. I’m going to start by making a kimono as a summer robe. Years ago, I made a couple for myself and a few for my sisters and girlfriends. The hard part is deciding on colors/fabrics! Then, I want to develop and test a couple of jacket patterns. I see them in my head, but just have to settle down and do it.

well my friend sage came over and she loved that i can sew, so now i feel way more motivated to know that i have support.

So I started a crazy quilt! It’s not typical in the sense that everything is every-which-away. I’m more organized. :-) I’ll post a picture soon.

Brian bought me another brand-spankin’-new sewing machine a couple weeks ago and I really haven’t stopped!! During my ‘break’ the projects just piled up. Now, it’s a reasonable pile and is slowly going down.

isn’t happening yet. lately either i am sick or the baby is. and on that rare day when both of us are healthy, i have to catch up around the house. sigh i really hate winter.

I’m finding it harder and harder to find clothes that I like that are still within my budget. On the other hand, the majority of clothes I see that ARE affordable just aren’t ME. See, I’ve got so many ideas of what clothes would be cool…a lot of times it could be details from different shirts all coming together, other times it’s just clothes that are way too expensive that look like they could be made easily. Anyway. I’m fed up! So I’m doing it!
