How to go to oktoberfest in Germany

How I did it: So the people of Munich have the "BIG OCTOBERFEST" but the rest of the country has little parties as well -- not to celebrate the magic marriage, but because, hey it's great to have a party.
We packed a little suitcase and walked to the next smallish town over two days, staying in a village on the way. We went in and enjoyed bratwurst and singing and the parade and I got hugged by a man in a funny hat.
It was nice and far more friendly and less over-the-top crazy than the Munich version.
