My husband got a grill and we have started inviting people over. It’s just more fun to invite people over when using a grill. I take care of the sides, and he takes care of the meat (and sometimes veggies on the grill). We first invited my parents over. We cooked pork spare ribs on the grill and I cooked a homemade squash casserole using the squash from my mom’s garden. I also cooked green beans from her garden. We then invited over a couple friends of ours, but the husband was sick and they couldn’t come. We saved the night by inviting my husbands mom, step dad and grandmother over. It was a hit. We had T-Bone steaks on the grill and a ribeye for Nana. We fixed mashed potatoes(box kind). Sauteed mushrooms, onions and garlic, had canned biscuits and a nice salad. Jeff also made a berried slaw. It was a hit, too. Both times we played Wii and our parents had such a good time. They stayed until 9:30 – 10:00 p.m. and there was never a dull moment.

I would love to be a great hostess. I am working on that. I haven’t invited many people over in my lifetime. Generally, I go to someone else’s house, but I would like to be the one entertaining now.
Any suggestions on books or blogs on the topic?

well, my hubby’s buddies have a have a standing date every Wednesday morning… so the house needs to be presentable, somewhat, on those mornings.
another young’un coming over on Thursday, Friday, Saturday to install linoleum flooring. he stopped by tonight, so yes, a contractor counts. is he a contractor if we are paying him in bacon & eggs (breaky) and beer?
