My High School record isn’t very good. I Graduated in 1997 and enlisted in the Marine Corps. I was honorably discharged in 2004. I earned an AS degree from Bryant & Stratton college w/ a GPA of 3.85. I’ve done my best to keep working but all I’m able to get are contract jobs. I want to further my education, and I’m very serious about Cornell. What can I do to improve my chances?
How to get into Cornell University
How I did it: At first I didn't mean to prepare myself for getting into Cornell, I was planning on going to school in California for a while, but by the time senior year come I decided to apply for the heck of it. I always did a diverse number of activities inside and outside of school. I've also been very culturally in touch and active in my church. I played sports, sang and preformed in school shows and musicals, and entered art into art shows. I took challenging classes and studied for my SATs/ACTs. I even started my own business. I excelled at a few very different things and worked very hard. And now it's totally paying off.
Lessons & tips: Work hard and write a killer essay or two. Focus on your strong points, but don't neglect to mention anything you find intriguing about yourself.
Resources: Books, teachers, friends, anything

“I am very pleased to inform you that we have approved your application for admission for fall 2009 as a candidate for the degree of Master of Regional Planning. Cornell’s program is very competitive and so you deserve congratulations for this achievement.”

I called the department secretary yesterday and she confirmed that my app is complete. Letters will be mailed the first week of March. She said open house is held at the end of March, so I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be at it. Whew. Here goes.

This is the one school that I really really want to get in.
I am a sophomore, and right now my GPA is 4.0+. I just got my PSAT results, and I was frankly, very disappointed. I have a 64 for critical reading, only a 54 for mathematics, and 55 writing skills. My percentile is 83. I was very uncomfortable with the whole experience, just not used to the whole thing at all. I really need to improve my SAT scores. I am not super involved with school activities either.

I toured the campus. Besides the 18° weather, I loved it. I picked up a lot of little tidbits of information, like that if there’s a book you want, Cornell will get it for you through the Ivy inter-library loan system; if that fails, they’ll buy you the book to use. I salivate over stuff like that. I have oodles of pamphlets and paperwork to digest over Thanksgiving. Lots to think about.

Now I’m just waiting on my housing application. I’m guaranteed housing but I am hoping they will give me the dorm I want, which is the international dorm. :)))))
