Review of Molly Maguire's Irish Breakfast  — 1 year ago

A++ for great atmosphere – Molly Maguire’s has excellent music from noon to four on Sundays, and today it included a nice variety of instruments. If there hadn’t been so many people watching football, I would have expected to see people get up and clog or something… At least we were definitely clapping.

However. I called ahead of time to make sure they had Irish breakfast, and apparently they did, but that is not what I ended up receiving, although I requested it. I was given what must have been a six-egg omelet wrapped around a mixture of tomatoes and sausage, with nice grilled potatoes on the side and a piece of soda bread with butter. A good breakfast, but not what I had expected, and not what I have had there before. Coffee was fine, bonus points for the nice big mug.

I really love the feeling at Molly’s – it’s very authentic. Actually it was so much so that when I realized the book I had brought was an Oscar Wilde book, I felt embarrassed for trying too hard, so I tried to hide the cover so no one would see it. It’s just a coincidence, I swear.

The price for the Irish breakfast, which I will probably go back and actually get to eat some other time, was $9.95, which is $2 more than they used to charge. I can’t comment on whether or not it’s a good value yet.

Scheduling woes  — 2 years ago

I have been slacking on this, so I decided I need to do better on the scheduling. A lot of these places aren’t open until lunchtime, so that makes it tough. Here are the hours I must work into my schedule to fulfill my dream:
Kells – Sundays only, 11-3
Molly’s – Sundays only, 12-4
Paddy’s – (hasn’t started yet) Sundays, 11-3-ish?

Too late for today, as I had to be at the airport at 9. Hopefully next Sunday.

Review of Fado Irish Breakfast  — 2 years ago

(I tried going to the Irish Emigrant, but they told me they don’t serve Irish breakfast any more, so that’s off the list. Added to the list is Paddy Coyne’s, which will start serving Irish breakfasts in February.)

Minus points for not having regular, non-alcoholic coffee, but bonus points for an excellent & authentic Irish coffee.

A good sign of a quality Irish breakfast is when you keep eating even though you’re full (either that or I have that eating disorder caused by your parents always telling you to clean your plate…).

I was quite pleased about the following points:
  • both black and white puddings
  • baked beans & grilled tomatoes – often forgotten
  • perfect eggs
  • delicious brown bread
  • served ALL DAY on weekends

At $10.95, it was a bit pricey, but a good value.

Additional places on the list:  — 2 years ago

Irish Emigrant on the Ave – Sat & Sun
Fado on First Avenue – Sundays
Molly Maguires in Ballard (have to go back to be fair) – Sundays

I love Irish puddings  — 2 years ago

but haven’t been able to find a good, reliable Irish breakfast place. The only place I knew that had it was Molly Maguire’s in Ballard, which is owned by my friend’s boyfriend’s uncle Finbar. I need to find a new one, though, because Molly’s was out of black pudding both times I went.

First up is Kells in Pike Place Market…
