I wish things were different between us, that I saw you more often and that I didn’t have to ignore your phone calls in fear of you telling me how to live my life, and getting into fights. I love you, but my dating life is really none of your business, and when you tell me that I’m “too picky” it actually hurts a little bit. It makes me realize that you think I have poor judgement.

The thing is, you have no context to make such a declaration. You have no clue who I’ve dated, who I’ve turned down, and who I’ve tried to pursue relationships with.

Would you rather me “settle” for the pathological liar? Or maybe the cheater? Or perhaps the one who didn’t tell me she had an STD until AFTER we had sex? Don’t worry, I didn’t catch anything, but what I’m getting at is that you need to learn to trust my judgement. When you don’t (and this isn’t the first time), it hurts.

I’ve learned a lot since our divorce. I’m well aware that I was as much to blame as you, when it came to the unhappiness and stagnancy in our marriage.

But that didn’t give you the right to hurt me the way you did. Understanding why you did it, didn’t make it any less painful. It was a selfish thing you did. You should have just told me face to face that you wanted out.
