I have found my clarinet in the loft and have learned some new songs and almost learned the notes I knew previously. I am going to book up some lessons to practice properly.
How to learn to play the clarinet
How I did it: I started playing my clarinet in the 6th grade in my band class. There I learned the basics, that summer I pursued it even more by entering to win a scholarship ( which i did win) which allowed me to take private lessons. By taking my lessons it expanded my knowledge even more and opened doors and oppurtunities. The next year excelled in my band class from my lessons. I still continue to take lessons 2 years later. I have also played solos and concerts and student showcases, also entering in solo and ensemble competitions. I have played in honors bands and have one the same scholarship twice now.
Lessons & tips: Find a good teacher. Someone who specializes in the instrument. They can teach you so much! If there is a chance to perform and show your progress (such as a concert, or program) enter it. If you don't get accepted keep trying. It can get very discouraging, learning music. Keep on truckin' because it pays off.

hi ive read a few of the posts here.. i just figured on giving a pointer or two..
i played the flute first, so it was basically easy to pick up since i knew how to read music, and had that basic concept already..
for those who dont… get yourself a basic as basic gets beginner music book..
before you can play the clarinet, you have to know the fundamentals.. reading music, etc…
so the book doesnt have to be a clarinet to start…
anywho, once you get that down pat, the clarinet is next.. lol..
from there i suggest getting yourself into a “group” learning atmosphere.. lets face it, not all of us have the motivation to sit down and teach ourselves something..
get into a group and that will become your motivation!
there are many groups, everywhere. all you have to do is look..
if you dont want a group, you can take private lessons. or if your a self motivated person, try grabbing a beginners book.. it doesnt matter who made the books altho, hal leonard (or something like that) is what i learned when i was back in 1st grade..
so anywho, i just figured id give my 2 cents =].. or rather the whole dollar.. lol
music is awesome!
magpieuk is happy but poor!
Would love to be able to play the clarinet – I wanted to ever since listening to the wind musicians in the school orchestra whilst I was playing my violin. Have promised myself if I get the job I want this year I’ll reward myself by renting/ buying my own clarinet and getting lessons
For christmas 3 of my closest friends joined forces and got me a ukulele. apparently clarinet lessons and ukulele sound the… same???
Enjoying the uke much, but not very condusive to this goal.
Fortunatly friend 2 of 3, put my clarinet together so maybe i will eventually learn basic clarinet.
ukulele is addicting though.
I got a teach yourself to play clarinet kit from the library.
Followthru is going to be a problem, I dont want to do it now. must. follow. thru. on. goals.
1)I have a clarinet! (Two actually, somewhere in the “storage room”) From when my mom and her sister played in middle school.
2)I called my friend who plays and just got home from collage to try to wrangle lessons out her.
3)I placed a hold on a teach yourself to play clarinet book from the library.
4) I think i’m ready to put the pieces together and get the hard part over (learning how to play!)
