Having a trip to the third world as my main goal has one really interesting side effect: material inconveniences here and now seem less important. Central heating only a few hours a day? Hey, at least there are radiators, and electricity. Drafty windows? At least there are windows. Spiders in the bathroom? At least they’re not scorpions.

This is what I need to do in 2007. Not sure yet if it’s going to be a short retreat geared to Westerners, or an extended stint at a monastery, but it’s my top priority.
