understand economics

Well, I’ve finished my exams in International Political Economy and International Financial Systems and would say I understand the basics now, so this will be more of a lifelong learning exercise, but having mastered the basics I’m no longer scared of the ‘e’ word, which is a miracle in itself! And I even got a Distinction in both the essays!

I’m taking a class this semester in it. I want to be able to talk about, apply, and really work through the subject of economics- it interests me, so I should learn more about it (and not just for the final!)

I’m majoring in economic development, which is an economics major with a concentration in development issues – I hope to understand economics fully so I can work in poor regions of LDCs and help build up their education and businesses… do some microfinancing…

and yeah, I want to UNDERSTAND, not just brainlessly memorize formulas, which is proving real annoying. Here’s hoping I can somehow simplify matters.

I’ve learned a lot about markets and business/finance recently. Books, TV, web – may even go to work in markets soon.
I’ll say I’m pretty educated now.

The podcasts weren’t adding too much to what I already knew, and some of the discussions didn’t make too much sense without the slides!

I’ve finished re-reading the book, and although I may not be able to pass any exams, I think I’ve got a good enough handle on many aspects to be able to check this off.

I’m going to listen to the podcasts I have too, though, since it will help reinforce things and I may pick up other snippets too.

I’ve read one chapter of my book, but I found this video enlightening. (It’s about 5 minutes long.)

...has been here quite a while, and it’s annoying me. I’m going to make a concerted effort to read my introductory book and actually listen to those podcasts I downloaded, then check this goal off.

Of course, I already know some things, but I just want to make sure I have a better handle on it all.
