I have wanted to visit Scandinavia for at least three years now, and I plan to visit by the end of 2011. I think that it will be eye-opening to see how happy and secure people live their lives – in a world unimpeded by excess food, stuff, decoration, etc. This will be a life changing trip.

I bought a tour guide today for Scandinavia to read about the sights and how best to tour the entire region during one trip. Copenhagen looks amazing, especially the communal area of Christiania.
Looks like I’m going to have to get the SO to like rye bread before we go though. He currently hates the stuff, and I get the impression that it’s pretty prevalent there. I’m also wondering how vegetarian-friendly the restaurants are there. We might have to break our diet to try some of the amazing fish dishes there.

I am fascinated by the natural beauty of these countries, their culture, and attitude towards social welfare and environmental protection.

I go to Denmark every year. I actually lived there once. Learned the language and love the country. I have also visited Norway and Sweden…
You will find the nicest people there.
So just DO IT!

Scandinavia is gorgeous! There is so much to see and do, so much history and culture. They people there are very nice. It’s a safe, calm, beautiful place. I went in the summer and I was surprised to find the weather was perfect. Swimming in the clear, crisp arctic ocean and crab fishing (crabe fiske) with the kids is an experience no one should miss!!

But I am! I really want to go there so much. And recently Denmark keeps crossing my path. People who have traveled there, the setting of two books that I am reading, etc. I think it would be a glimpse into such a different way of living than here in the U.S. – some welcome perspective.

As a Finn who has migrated to Switzerland (found myself a lovely Swiss husband) I have to admit that I miss it up there even if I’m very happy here too. The extreme weathers, short days during the winter and long ones during the summer, quirky black humour, culture, design (for clothes freak check Ivana Helsinki and Hanna Saren) scenery, autumn colours, weird food, reindeers and moose on the streets and even the maniac boozing during the week end makes me want to move back as soon as my hubby has finished his studies here.
