See my posting (Under my 14 things) and we can start again. I’m only looking for 10 – 20 places to send him at the most. It’s not Rufus, but we will locate the next best thing.
Anyone wanna start over????
How I did it: I didn't. Rufus was incognito after some postal foul play.
In essence (or so we all believe) Rufus was misplaced by the American postal system and was not recovered. So this goal wasn't worth it in that sense. However the fun in sharing his trip until he was lost was very worth it. Maybe we should use Gnome Insurance next time around?
Lessons & tips: Have a clear itinerary. Have alternates in case of drop outs. Possibly have insurance so in case of Gnome Loss another may be adopted and sent on the remaining edge of the gnome trips.
Resources: Not the postal service LOL

Apparently, gnomes are known for going missing. Accident? Gnomenapping? I think not. Here is a story about one missing from a place called Smithsberg. http://www.herald-mail.com/?module=displaystory&story_id=134330&format=html
Yes, they say the gnomes aren’t talking.

One of my friends tipped me off that the seniors in Dawson, Minnesota have an annual gnome stealing and throw them into the Lac qui Parle River. Apparently the sheriff rescues most of them. So I googled “Dawson Minnesota gnomes” and found a wonderful story about working “grove gnomes” http://www.holthouse.org/grovegnomes.html and a great link to the “Gnome Reserve and Flower Garden” in North Devon, Britan. http://www.gnomereserve.co.uk/ It looks from the website that they have “Recycled Teenagers” there too! Maybe they are just regular teenagers that dress in thrift store clothes—I’m not sure. Maybe Rufus is there.

Reading along, it seems that tracking of traveling inanimate characters, such as teddy bears, gnomes, altered dolls, and flat stanley, is part of the issue.
“Now where did I put that 12” ceramic statue that a large group of people are invested in?”, “Hmmmm, is it under the couch? Did the dog bury it? Oh yeah, I took it to Starbucks and must have left it on the chair”.
Knowing this allows you to create technology and/or process that can be either burdensome or entertaining. I choose entertaining.
heaveemetal If you could make a difference in someones life...would you?
