Comic Mania! 4 days ago

Just read 8 – Urrozdinee, weird story will probably cause some continuity errors (I’m sure Paris is going to appear just fine and dandy in other ‘future’ stories set on Earth!). Now waiting to see if I win DWM 181 which contains story 9 – Echoes Of Future Past. Then it’s going to be some hard graft getting hold of the Classic Comics and TV Comics from the 60s with all those comic strips which appear in purple on the drwhoguide.com site!

Btw I am also following the ‘literal’ meaning of this goal and actually watching all the episodes too – I’ve reached The Aztecs, having watched The Beginning boxset, the Marco Polo reconstruction (as all the episodes are missing from the archives), and Keys Of Marinus the latest DVD release. After Aztecs comes Sensorites which I have on VHS. Then Reign Of Terror also has missing episodes, I have the reconstructions for those plus the ‘orphaned’ episodes, and that will complete Season 1! So now I’m waiting to see what arrives on Xmas day! Have asked for the first couple of 2nd season adventures which are available on DVD. All of this is still the First Doctor, of course, this is definitely a Life goal!

Time to start the comics! 1 week ago

6 – The Gift and 7 – Childhood Living have now been read. The former is the Doctor’s first encounter with Brigadier (now General) Lethbridge-Stewart, though ironically it seems this is one of the last encounters from his point of view. One thing I though weird is how the Doctor seems to recognise him even though they haven’t met, saying he would recognise one of his friends anyway, yet he didn’t recognise Toni Kingston’s character the first time he met her in the previous TV series (this is supposedly the first of many meetings).

The latter is from The Centenarian edition of Short Trips, and is the first story involving Edward Grainger – although he and the Doctor don’t actually meet yet. Next up is the first comic-style story, Urrozdinee. Just placed a bid for DWM 181 which is where the next story Echoes Of Future Past comes from.

Btw if you’re wondering what I’m blethering on about, all these stories are listed in chronological order (from the Doctor’s perspective) on this web page – www.drwhoguide.com/who.htm

A quality website for Who fans!

That’s the setting for Bide-a-Wee in Short Trips Past Tense, interesting short story which characterises the First Doctor really well. So that’s 5 down, umpteen (hundreds!) to go, next up is no 6 – The Gift, from Short Trips History of Christmas.

Speaking of Christmas, didn’t my family have a good old chuckle at my Xmas list which needless to say contains just Dr Who stuff…who me, a geek? Never…

Good luck lenmana…how far you got so far? I’m also watching the episodes as well as reading all the stories etc, but have only reached Keys of Marinus so far lol. This is going to take decades but it is a ‘life’ goal isn’t it lol!

My Goal 3 weeks ago

To watch all of Dr. Who

Frayed is awesome! 3 weeks ago

Finished Frayed yesterday and what a story! The blurb makes it sound like it will be confusing but it isn’t, especially once you realise what the structure of the chapters are doing. A must-read for Dr Who fans!

So now I’m on story no 5, Bide-A-Wee from Short Trips Past Tense, and guess what, a whole bunch of further books have gone onto my initial Christmas list lol!

Three down! 4 weeks ago

Well I’ve done the first three anyway! They are all shorts contained within various Short Trips collections by Big Finish, buy them direct from Big Finish, or from Amazon, play.com or Ebay so far Ebay proving to be the cheapest place.

2 – Longest Story In The World, funnily enough a really short story, weird to work out what it’s all about, we’re reading about her telling about her telling her grandfather about various stories! What’s the point, is it to say that all the Dr Who stories were just fantasies? But we knew that anyway…

3 – The Exiles, the first time the Doctor (who hasn’t yet acquired that name, of course) enters the TARDIS. This is a creepy short designed to forewarn us that the TARDIS is more than just a time machine – weird things are going to happen inside it as well as outside!

Now I’m on Frayed, one of the Telos novellas. So far, nice and scary, like the monsters which form out of rags blown on the wind. Very Doctor Who-esque!

Discovered the list on drwhoguide.com in order of time from the Doctor’s perspective and have been collecting for a week or so now!

Have read From Eternity the first short story, set when the Doctor was working with the Time Lords. I have the next two short stories to read, all of this pre-dates the first ever Dr Who TV episode so will ‘officially’ get to those later (although yes I have been watching them too ;-)
