See you later mr. Bundy!
Might even sell ya now.
I’ve gotta say, i kind of hate the clarinet.
But i’m glad i can play it a little now and not entirely embarrass myself.
How I did it: I started to learn the clarinet when I was about 9 and carried on lessons through school until I was about 14. I loved playing it at first and am happy that I learnt to play an instrument. From what I can remember it wasn't to hard, but the squeaks are NOT a nice noise lol
Learning through school was good until I got to a certain age when I realised I didn't like my teacher (he never put me in for any exams) and that I wasn't really a performing person. I was expected to take part in shows, learn a new song every week and I just couldn't handle it, I wasn't enjoying it anymore so I stopped.
I still have it and got it out yesterday, it never leaves you haha.

I just need to perfect all the alternates and work for about another week on my embouchure but i’m feeling like i’m actually GETTIN’ it!
FEELS GREAT!
I think i’m better at learning to play instruments now than i was when i was younger, what’s that about?
wingednflying is playing neopets and doing random things
When i was picking an instrument, I mixed up the clarinet with flute so I thought the flute was a clarinet… I want to play the clarinet but I already play so many instruments, my parents are getting crazy…

When i learn new fingerings and then go back a few days later, they are natural and i don’t need to think about them.
I really would like to work on connecting the dots between the note names and the fingerings/sounds.
I’m going to experiment with ‘transposing’ some music without the staff so i can ‘sight’ read.
I have to get this down so that i can move onto the next instrument.

I am getting back in the groove, almost through the first book, and wishing i had a better fullscale method book.
I’m no longer squaky.
But i’m trying to learn flute concurrently so i find myself checking fingering charts more often than i would like.
My goal is to be able to play the playtesting scale by the end of the month.

I picked up a mouthpiece today and a few reeds.
I put together the clarinet i brought home and started honkin’ away… Its the one that i took apart and put back together yesterday as our first repair lesson… :) I forgot to repost a spring though so i was holding the trill key UP while practicing… lesson learned!
I’ve got to build an embouchure gradually, hopefully the same muscles will help me when it comes to playing sax… when we get there.
I’m going to start with clarinet, and sight reading.
I’m already 1/4 way through the primary methods book and its surprising how easily it came back to me.
When i can get through the playtesting routines without squeaking/screwing up i’m gonna join the community band in ballard to get back into the ‘culture of music’, as it were.
:)
Playing any sort of instrument is a completely unique and fulfilling experience. I’ve never felt anything like playing an intricate piece I’ve been working on right, finally. It’s fantastic.
Heya. I’ve been playing clarinet for nearly 8 years. And i’m up to nearly 7th grade AMEB. It’s so awesome when you get up to this level. So stick at it guys, because it’s totally worth it.
joshuajohnlee is going to his Russian and Classics lectures.
Learning the clarinet is fun and I’m now a grade 4. I think that counts as being able to play the clarinet. ;)
Don’t give up guys!
