Finished the top half, complete with neck strap! Used an old corduroy printed shirt and it’s very 50s. Love it so far, and can’t wait to finish it.
How I did it: Well, when I originally made this goal, I was planning to make an apron for myself. I needed to make a gift for my mom though, and I thought she would enjoy a pretty apron. I stuck to my original plan of using different patterned materials- one for the main part of the apron, one for the front pockets, and one for the waistband and neckband. I think it came out very cute! The fabrics were different patterns, but coordinating colors. I finally finished it- I had to get it done to give to her which we were visiting home around New Years. I think it's always easier to actually accomplish things when there is a deadline. :)

Simply because I much prefer using a sewing machine, and no matter how neat and small my stitches, I still have to stitch everything twice (stitching once one way, then stitching back, in the gaps of the last stitches, so it appears you have one continuous line of stitches). Alternatively, I could do backstitch, which is slightly stronger. Argh, I just want a sewing machine!

And I’ve stitched the two main pieces together but, as I recently found out the mini sewing machine I bought is a piece of crap, I am going to have to stitch it all by hand to begin with. Luckily, my hand stitches are quite small and neat (even if I do say so myself), but it’ll still take a while. I can’t afford a new proper sized, good machine yet. The cheapest I could get here is still over £100, and I can’t justify spending that much on a sewing machine yet. It’ll just have to wait.

Erik will be back at school, whilst I have another week to wait, so I am going to get started with this goal. I have a mini sewing machine, but it’s not as reliable as a proper one, so I will hand stitch everything first. I can’t wait until I can have a real sewing machine again!

I’ve never owned any kind of pattern before, but now I have an apron one, and one for a nice sling-type handbag. I am planning on making some aprons for people I know, and I hope that they come out okay, I was surprised to find I actually understood what to do with the patterns! :)

All the aprons I see out there are pretty boring! I’ve been working on designing and making my own cute fifties-flirty apron …. it has ribbon at the neck, and 3 different coordinating fabrics for the background, pockets, and waist, respectively. I’ve cut it out, I just need to finish it! Someday I’d like to sell cute aprons… but I need to practice on my own first!

I got a sewing machine for my birthday, and I already started my apron.. it’s purple and awesome! haha. I’ll post pictures when it’s done.
made aprons for my children – my little boy’s is a touch long but it is fine!
His has a bus and a letter J sewn on the front – hers so far has a pink strip and a flower on the front
I love them!
Still want to learn to sew . . . but since I was given a lovely apron for Christmas I can put this on hold until I have more time and space for sewing.

than I thought it would be. My mom helped me with the first one, then I did 3 more on my own.
