From now on I’m going to be healthy and not poison myself!

30 Days 7 months ago

Moving to Oklahoma depresses me, then I drink and party with friends, and get even more depressed! I miss the coast and the ocean, I’m in trouble as I’ve only been here 4 months! I don’t think drinking is bad, but I want to go 30 days w/o to see the changes, physically and mentally. It will be hard to do as we hang with a hard partying group and temptation is everywhere! I don’t know if I can do it.

Abstaining for life 10 months ago

I’m going to be alcohol free from now on. The first 30 days will be the hardest but I’m going to stick with it. Got drunk last night for the last time.

feuerfrei is working on achieving a goal - so I can add another one to the list!

Last night I realised how alcohol depresses me (it never used to). I figure I need to start looking after myself better, so I am avoiding alcohol for 30 days. Today seems a good time to start, given that it is New Years Day :)

I actually went 35 days, having my first drink over the weekend. I’m not going to lie, it was good :) But, overall, I was surprised how much I didn’t miss drinking.

  • I’m glad that I was in several situations where I absolutely would have been drinking, including; my sister’s birthday party, a brunch for my dad at my house, a party of mostly people I didn’t know, and a couple sporting events. I think it was beneficial to be in so many different places without the crutch of a drink. Being forced to deal was a good thing.
  • I also came to the conclusion that drinking to me is a way to kick back and relax. Therefore, if I’m going to drink, I really want to be able to enjoy it. I don’t want to have to worry about counting how many drinks I had because I have to drive home or get up early. If that’s the case, if I can’t simply enjoy a drink without taking into consideration other factors, then I’d prefer not to drink. The 30 days allowed me to realize that it’s okay to not drink during a social gathering.
  • This 30-day detox also amplified the fact that I am weakest in regard to smoking when I am drinking. Over the 35 days, I had no noticeable urges to light up. Last night, after a few glasses of wine, I was ridiculously close to going over to a neighbor’s house to bum a smoke. Ugh.
  • This detox gave me the opportunity and platform to restart another cleansing habit, fasting regularly.

Bottom line: a good experiment and worth it, but probably not something I think I’d need to do again.

Well I drank only once in August but I went all of September with no alcohol. Then I had a party October 1. Hoorah.

I think I’m going to have to wait until August to do this one because I’ve already had a little to drink this month, plus I have four friends with birthdays in June and a few other events I’m sure alcohol will be at, then my birthday and two others’ are in July so August seems like the perfect time to do so. I’ll get settled into the new semester and then come Spetember and Labor Day the parties will start back up again.
