“Yeah, come on, come over, lay up in my arms,
Give me your heart and I won’t do it any harm,
There’s a spot on my shoulder right there….”
This is the song that lifts my spirits no matter what is happening:) I hope it can do the same for you…

I’d like to know where to find this song…
Her lips are like crayons
her hands paintbrushes
she draws pictures on my soul
with every places she touches
Her Mona Lisa kisses
wilder than Davincis dreams
my body is her canvas
she made me her masterpiece
She’s an artist undercover
she loves outside the lines
she is redecoratin’ everything i thought was mine
a heart full of empty pages
bringin’ me Illustrated
before her everything was black and white
she colors my life
She mixes her desire
with tenderness and passion
creatin’ shades of love
no maker not imagine
In a world that’s full of grey
she’s my kaleidoscope
I’m like the Sistine chapel
and she’s Michelangelo
She’s an artist undercover
she loves outside the lines
she is redecoratin’ everything i thought was mine
a heart full of empty pages
bringin’ me Illustrated
before her everything was black and white
she colors my life
She’s an artist undercover
she loves outside the lines
she is redecoratin’ everything i thought was mine
a heart full of empty pages
bringin’ me Illustrated
before her everything was black and white
she colors my life

I won’t speak about how I heard this song.. but if anyone knows anything about it.. who sang it.. where I can find it.. Please let me know..
You say your tired of
that same old same old
you need a night where you can be yourself
so i took off early
baby get ready
i know a few things that just might help
I’m just gettin’ started
listen to me darlin
brace your heart for whats ahead
theres gonna be lot of me wanting you
doin’ what you need me to
theres no one else around
just let me lay you down
you ain’t seen nothin’ yet
I’m just gettin’ started
Girl your lookin’ good
with just that smile on
these sheets can’t cover up the love we’re in
well I’m gonna take my time
baby get ready
this never endin’ nights about to begin
I’m just gettin’ started
listen to me darlin
brace your heart for whats ahead
theres gonna be lot of me wanting you
doin’ what you need me to
theres no one else around
just let me lay you down
you ain’t seen nothin’ yet
I’m just gettin’ started
I’m just gettin’ started
listen to me darlin
brace your heart for whats ahead
theres gonna be lot of me wanting you
doin’ what you need me to

we got a long way to go
no we ain’t finished yet
we’re just getting started

There’s a good reason for this..
It hit the number one spot when I was in high school. This means that it was always playing on the radio. Ergo, it was playing in my head all day..I used to hum it on the way to classes.
It’s a good song. And when I hear it, now, I smile as I remember wearing my velvet flower child dress, and sitting on top of the stone table in my high school parking lot.. singing it under the warm sun and cool breeze.

Something about this song is so calming and soothing to me. I first heard it when I was a child in the 80s, living in Norway..
I watched the video on VH1…
This song had a beat and melody that I hummed wherever I went. The lead singer of the band Black had a serene face and an even more serene voice. In my mind, he sang it to me.
And the words .. Here I go out to sea again, the sun shine fills my hair, and dreams hang in the air.
Another year has gone and soon another will begin. Here’s to a wonderful, wonderful life.

Now, though this song dates back years and years and years in my life, the big influence didn’t happen until about five or six years ago.
It became the song that I sang to my students (in my head…. and my car)
Yes, this was it. As an educator, I always walked to class with my earphones in and music resounding in my head. This was the song that always reminded me of my kids at school :) I sang it to them a thousand times (in my head….. and my car… ok, sometimes at the supermarket too) and it always made me smile when I did and sometimes laugh too :)
Now it’s official! To all the students I’ve ever taught and to all of those that are to come.. this is your song.

Let’s see.. how can I explain Mr. Sinatra in my life? Well, it actually all started with my sister when I was 10 or 11. She was crazy about him and naturally we heard almost nothing else in the house at the time.
Sinatra was always ringing in my ears, even though as a young child of the 80s, my ears were more receptive to Madonna and Guns’n’Roses.
It wasn’t until I was older.. when my sister moved away to college.. when I missed her so terribly.. that I started to play Sinatra in my room to comfort me in her absence.
I’d always heard the songs, but in my new found solitude; I listened, truly listened. That is when I heard the star. He truly was brilliant.
A high point in our lives (my sister and mine) is when our parents took us to Radio City Music Hall to see Sinatra in concert.
God rest his soul now. I leave you all with one of very many special songs..

I grew up on this… I heard it a hundred times in the car and a thousand times on the radio. Today, I roll down the windows of my car, let the cool breeze kiss me as I sing with Bill Withers (and my son).
Sad as it is, it always makes me feel happy.
I am sure that in this song, Withers kept a secret that now I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I know I know…

I was a child when I first heard this song. I was a child who was yet to learn to understand metaphors or other such figurative language.
“Bang Bang, I hit the ground..”
I didn’t like the song. It made me sad and scared.
I heard it again as an older woman, and remembered it from my youth. There were no feelings of fear this time.. but the sadness was still there. This time, I welcomed the sadness and loved the song.
