Realize that it is progress not perfection.
How I did it: Step 1 Check Labels
Check the Labels on all of your food products in your home and note how many milograms of sodium is in each. Note serving size as well. Some can goods are one can but a serving is half.
Case Subject: Chef Boyardee Beefaroni. 1 can two servings. 990 mg of sodium per serving which means one can of beefaroni 1 can = 1,980 mg of sodium.
Step 2 Check Restaurant Facts
Check the Nutrition facts for the restaurants you frequent. Sometimes you can’t say no to going out, wether it’s a friends birthday or a work lunch, but you can learn what things to order and what things to stay away from. Keep in mind that a low sodium diet is between 2,000-2,500 mg’s Daily.
http://www.dietfacts.com/ is a handy site that list a lot of restaurants info.

Step 3 Find out which things you can buy in no or low sodium formulas
Things I’ve found.
Low sodium Chicken broth and chicken stock
Low sodium Tomato sauce
Salt Substitues
Mrs. Dash
Penzey’s Mural of Flavor
Step 4 Stock Up
Stock up on items that are low in sodium to keep on hand when you are in a hurry.
Natural applesauce
Celery sticks
Low Sodium Wheat Thins
Fruit Salads
Low Sodium Marinades / Salad dressings.
Step 5
Realize that it is progress not perfection.
Lessons & tips: Once you start lowering your sodium, you won't miss it, in fact overly salty foods will start to taste to strong and too salty for you.
