I draw a self-portrait of myself back in school (art class). I wouldn’t consider myself a talented artist… but it was worth it.

youster is very behind things on this site!!
i drew this picture last week of me and my boyfriend, and i think i’ve drawn him well but i just made myself look TERRIBLE!!
this isn’t a picture of the final drawing because it needs a lot of work doing to it still, but basically it was this that made me decide i need to draw a self portrait because it’s surprisingly difficult!!
i find that if you’re particularly self conscious about something then this can be over or under exaggerated in a drawing. this is a goal that i really want to acheive soon!!!

I have always liked drawing. When I was in school me and my friends filled the lessons mostly with drawing eyes instead of paying attention to the teacher (something I resent now very much because I’m a teacher now myself). Especially my friend was very skilled in drawing eyes. After a few years we began to draw whole faces. My friend mostly drew faces of famous people from magazines and I liked to draw faced from pictures. I did some photo’s of myself during that time. In one of my last years in school I had to make a painting and the topic had to be ‘myself’. So I painted my own face. It worked out very well, most of the kids in school recognized me as ‘the girl with the long hair’.

I drew a self portrait awhile ago. I think it was worth doing, it makes you see yourself in a new light. I have low self confidence honestly and don’t always see myself the way others see me. But when I drew a self portrait I realized how wrong I am sometimes. For me it was beneficial and boosted my confidence, odd as that may sound. It really does help you learn more about yourself. I think everyone should draw a self portrait once in their life.
