I want to figure out a way to raise awareness and encourage people to get tested. It scares me that so many people just never get tested for this.

I went to a volunteer information session this morning with the Colorado AIDS Project. It was wonderful—this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I may go on to take some more specific training courses and receive certification as an HIV Prevention Generalist. I will certainly staff some outreach events this summer.

May have the chance after all, if I volunteer with the Colorado AIDS Project.

I’ve always wanted to understand more about this disease, and how the possibility of a disease like this changes a community, and what those living with HIV or AIDS could teach me about living and dying. I’m not dropping this—while I doubt I have time to take on a full job now that I’m about to go to school again, I still very much want to learn these things, learn the lessons of this modern plague. May have to settle for a brief volunteer job, a conference, a discussion… I think this one has to be done through being with people, I can’t just read up on it.

This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but it hasn’t really fit into the scheme. My reasons for wanting to do it are enigmatic, too. Somehow, I know this is something I really want, and perhaps even must do.

I’m looking for a way to help with research for a cure, but also to be around people. Maybe there’s something important I’m supposed to learn from spending time with people who have HIV.

I want to help people become more informed about HIV and AIDS. Of course, people need to know how it can be transferred so they can prevent it or at least reduce their risk. However, people also need to know how it can’t be transferred in order to prevent isolating those who have this illness.
