How to become drum major"I love being drum major. I love being able to help everybody and being looked up to, and having an immense amount of responsibility!"
How I did it: I auditioned for Drum Major during the 2008 season, and became Assistant Drum Major. The Asst is a part-time Drum Major, part-time band member. I got to march for about half the show, and conduct, too. For the 2009 season, I was chosen to be Drum Major, no audition necessary. For many, many months, though, nobody knew whether or not I would be Drum Major until the 2009 season was upon us. Lessons & tips: You should always be willing to help. I've offered my help to anyone and everyone. I spend time during the school day helping out in all of the concert bands, and helping organize the band room. To be a good leader you must be able to take charge of difficult situations and assert your authority...just make sure you're not too overbearing. It takes dedication and committment to lead a group of people...especially your peers in band. Luckily, there are other leaders in the band and camps that provide useful information on how to succeed as a leader. Read how I did it…

i love being drum major for my school… it just now opened so i am the very first drum major and it is so amazing… but to be drum major you have to have alot of patience and be ready to do alot of the crap work that no one else will. and try not to be one of those DM’s that everyone hates… that makes life a whole lot harder…
