Looks like I will probably be cancelling my Netflix subscription, then, as least temporarily. I guess that’s ok. I don’t have time to watch many full-length films this semester, unfortunately.

I started playing the violin when I was seven years old and I loved it. I then discovered jazz and began playing the trombone in high school. I love the trombone, it’s an amazingly cool instrument and I have lots of fun however, I really want to get back into my violin. Before my grandpa died, he gave me the violin he got when he was 14 years old. That makes it about 80 years old now, which is pretty special. It is in a pretty bad condition at the moment, and I really want to get it fixed.

I was listening to the radio last night and heard a violin piece that was gorgeous and haunting. I almost cried. It was as if my instrument was crying out to me from its case in the corner.
Unfortunately, my car’s clutch pedal is acting weird, which may mean the clutch is on its way out. Which may mean I’ll have to spring for a new car, because the one I have may not be worth spending the cash to replace the clutch.
Which means I will NOT have money to fix the violin for quite a long time. Dear god I hope not.

So I have a bit more courage in getting an estimate on the violin repair. I still haven’t done it. It’s even scarier than the dentist goal, because I feel so much guilt about it.
But I must do this. Unfortunately probably not in time for the wedding. But I can’t not do it. This violin has been through too much with me, and it deserves to be fixed.

so mine’s a cello, but i got it fixed. it took a long time and was very expensive—they basically replaced the top. i learned some stuff:
1. get a dampit (i just thought they were for violins)
2. appreciate your instrument (especially after you get it back)
get it done. you’ll think it was worth it (even if you don’t play so much anymore—like me).

A coworker who is a cellist gave me the info for a guy who fixed a crack in her instrument once. She said he was good, and not insanely expensive.
I’m going to call him and see if he can give me an estimate on repair. There are a few other repair people that I’ll call also. As long as I’m fixing the violin, I should probably get my bow rehaired, too. Darn. So much for “save more money”.

It’s a crack that’s been there for a long time – long enough that I feel really guilty about it, which makes me NOT want to take it in to be fixed, even though I desperately want it to be fixed. I am afraid of the repair guy saying “HOW long has this been here?” and having to answer him.
Another thing giving me pause: cost. See my goal about saving money. I’m willing to pay what it costs, but I don’t want to be left with no nest egg, either.
