but not all the movies on the list are what you expect. i think it’s better to pick and choose what you like :) using the list as a GUIDE rather than an absolute.

Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. Great movie, but hardly a comedy! Worth watching for trends of the time, and a great performance by Jack Lemmon. They both look great, too.
...shamelessly copied from running in place, with thanks.

I’ve already seen this one a few times before, but it was on last night, and I couldn’t help it. I LOVE THIS MOVIE! The cleanness of the dialogue, no throwaway words, the movement of each actor (every single one is so graceful), and humor that remains modern.
The Conversation and American Graffiti were on last night. Didn’t get to watch them both, but I’ve seen The Conversation before, and it is great. An amazing technical job of editing, sound, etc. Don’t know why this isn’t a bigger ‘hit’....Gene Hackman is great, and what’s funny is Cindy Williams is in both.
I enjoyed American Graffiti – there should be an AFI Top High School movies list.

Watched “Born Yesterday” last night (bonus! it was on TCM). I question some of these movie choices. There were good things about the movie (the scene with Judy Holiiday playing gin was great!), and the story about her dad. But to be honest, I didn’t find it compelling. And really not that funny.
