I must graduate college if I want to avoid sucky jobs, but I can’t be too picky at 18, right? I need a day job because I need to save my money in order to go to school again and live in new york city. I’m setting my standards hgih – asking for 9 an hour because I work hard and I want a little incentive…. I will work retail most likely, it’s the least abusive and fun but tempting I don’t how well I’ll even save money.

The positives outweigh the negatives... 3 years ago

For me, this has been a positive change. I wanted to wait on completing this goal just to make sure. The losses are that I had a less hectic schedule working nights and more time to think about things. The positives of my new job: I am the authority on how my time gets spent and I try to spend it wisely. I get to plan my own schedule as long as everything gets done by the end of the week, and I have more motivation to relax when not at work (which I didn’t really have on nightshift). It’s been a bit of a rough transition this week physically, however. Even though I can already feel the vitality returning to my bones, I have the worst time getting to sleep. Everyone at work asked me if I had trouble staying awake, but that was easy. That’s what I did for seven and half years :)! My body nags at me to get up right when I should be falling asleep. But I’m sure when I get so tired I can’t really keep up, I’ll fall into a deep sleep and start the process of sleeping at night again. Thank you all for your support!

I have worked nights for about ten years….I am growing tired of it! I am awake until late on my nights off and sleepy and sluggish during the day when I could be enjoying the outside! I like my co-workers on nights and like avoiding much of the politics…I think I needs to try day shift and see if I feel more alive though.

    Rejected. 3 years ago

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the new job. I thought I interviewed pretty well, but unfortunately I wasn’t recommended for the position. sigh I guess, I’ll go back to writing and the nightwatch. Trying to keep a positive outlook and professional appearance. I cut my hair recently, since I’m dealing with small town politics, and trying to recover from the rather nasty things the owner at my previous interview said about me (which was why the floor manager was trying to convince him to be open-minded). I don’t really see myself as a “slug” and I don’t really think wearing black means your a goth. Apparently here it does, and disqualifies you from doing anything useful. Seems like at one time, I heard black was a power color. ah, well the struggle continues.

Seven years is a long time... 3 years ago

I’ve worked nights for (over) seven years now. It was helpful to put myself through college and work full time. I guess the benefit is that I have very little debt after graduating in December. The downside is I constantly feel slightly ill, as if my body always wants more rest. I applied for two jobs. One I didn’t take because I didn’t want to be the next employee working at the place that had to beg the owner to be open-minded (which the floor manager was trying to do for me). Didn’t matter they didn’t ever call me back. I interviewed for the other job last Tuesday and still haven’t got a call about it. Montana is weird that way. I figure by now I’d know one way or another. Oh well, here’s hoping!

Working nights gets old. It’s not so much the staying up that bothers me, it’s trying to figure out what the hell to do with myself on my days off. Stay up during the day? Stay up all night? But theaters and restaurants aren’t open at 2AM. Problematic.

An Amazing Change 4 years ago

I have been in the new job a week now and I am still stunned at how much of a change it has made to my world. I have time to see my family, and my stress levels have dropped considerably. It’s been great.

Got the job! 4 years ago

I am not going to close off this goal until I know for sure whether it was “worth it” or not… though I am 99% sure it will be worth it. I start June 1st.

I'll start with an application... 4 years ago

I have applied for a day job and should hear about an interview this week (as an internal, I have to be offered an interview)... so fingers crossed I might actually meet this goal within the month of May.
