the end is in sight!
How to save one thousand dollars
How I did it: First, I stuck with my budget. I made sure to pay myself first every single time. I cut back on the little things ( coffees, mcdonalds, and other impulse purchases ) that cut into the money. Once I did that, and really got present to how I was wasting money, I started to see all kinds of ways that I could save. I sold off my old truck and put the money into savings, got a rebate check, into savings, that sort of thing. Where once, when I had some extra I saw a way to treat myself and would blow the money, now I am putting it aside.
Next stop, $$2500.00
Lessons & tips: Just have discipline. That is the hardest part. We all want stuff, we all want instant gratification, but once you stop that, you find that the needs go away and it actually creates a deeper calm in your life.

I sold something on ebay then put the money in my savings. I now have $700.00 dollars saved. So, so close!
2nd paycheck of the month and I was able to put another $200.00 away. I am up to $650.00. Should be hitting $700.00 by the end of this month and then, meet my goal by the end of next!
Then, I will focus my goal on getting some debts paid off. It will be nice to have this as a buffer for when things happen.
One of my online payments didn’t go through with the amount I thought i had bumped it up to, so .. I put the difference in savings and made sure the new amount would go through starting next month. That was for the Lasik surgery and I need to be sure that is paid of by November. So, I did the math and I am still on track for that.
I will be getting the money for my truck today and after paying insurance and a few other things, that will go in as well. Should be very close to $500.00 this week.
So cool!!
I still have about $860.00 to go. I went grocery shopping today and, due to smarter buying, had about 1/3 of my budgeted amount left over. I used part of it to buy a spice rack, and then the rest went into savings.
Once I get the money for the truck, I really should be half way there.
It’s old, has some mileage on it, but is in good shape. If I get what I asked for, this will put me almost halfway to my savings goal.
Woohoo!!
With my new daughter due in April, it will be nice to have a cushion, albeit a small one.
As of last Friday, June 6, 2008, my goal of collecting $1,000.00 in cash for my trip to Florida has been met. I’m pretty proud of myself for getting it done in time without having to take anything out of checking to make up the difference.
Now, I can only hope that a thousand dollars is enough to cover food and gas for the approximately 700 mile trip. Wish me luck.
