Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

20. Watched ‘Roots’; it was a bit slow to start but I enjoyed it!

21. Tried a new restaurant: Granny’s Kitchen. The food was delicious, the restaurant was a hidden gem and they bake all of their own bread.

22. Tried a new recipe for low fat chocolate oatmeal cookies which was delicious.

23. Watched ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’, the last Indiana Jones movie. I thought it was weird and way too fake. The originals were far better. 2 years ago


17. Saw ‘Boomtown’ which was pretty good!

18. Tried crackle nail polish. Not my style at all, but that’s why I tried it. It came out pretty nice too.

19. Tried a new, local candy shop. Their espresso truffles are delicious. 2 years ago


14. New foods – beignets and a muffelata in New Orleans. The muffelata may be the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. Z agreed. Trust me, a food coma is real and amazing. It was so good that I would eat it again despite that I had a violent reaction to it.

15. New places. I’ve never been to Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Arkansas or Mississippi. It was interesting and beautiful and I’m glad I went.

6. Watched a new (to me) movie – Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

7. Tried a new food – potato pierogi (nowhere near as good as cheese.)

8. Created a new recipe – strawberry lemon bread

9. Doing something different – going out for a fish fry. (I’ve been to the restaurant before, years ago, but have never had fish fry there)

I have no idea why this goal marked itself as ‘complete’ when I clicked ‘add entry’...

Anyways, tonight I tried a new food product: ground turkey! We make tacos with fresh veggies, ground turkey and homemade taco seasoning and it was delicious. I would definitely do it again! 2 years ago

New items three and four are two new recipes that I tried over the weekend. The first was for homemade chocolate biscotti (I love biscotti) and the second was nutella puffs for World Nutella Day. Both came out well. I’ll be reworking the biscotti recipe but I was very pleased with the Nutella Puffs! 2 years ago

This weekend I visited Delaware for the first time! While it was only for a few hours, I was able to see my sister graduate and see my dad forthe first time in a year. I also get to cross another state off my 50 states list! 2 years ago

buffalosnowangel1. Chocolate Affair

Tonight my family, Z, and I went to an event called the “Chocolate Affair”. It was a charity event held by a local restaurant (Salvatore’s Italian Gardens) and a local radio station (96.1 WJYE) where the proceeds went to support Autism research and programs.

For $20 per ticket you could visit tables and do dessert, and wine, tastings. (They had other vendors like spas and massage parlors as well but everyone wanted to try the food!) Everything was centered around chocolate. There were ice creams, cupcakes, gelato, panna cotta, doughnuts…on and on. We brought tons home because there were too many and the place was beyond packed; but everything we tried was delicious. (Except the panna cotta which Z tried and would not try again.)

Overall it was a really nice experience. The food was good, the bands were decent (one was an Autistic group who did well) and the number and types of vendors would have made it a great place to try things for a wedding. The only drawback was the number of people there. It was like a cattle call!

We definitely got our money’s worth and we would do it again. Plus, our fridge is full of mini desserts for breakfast. Win! 2 years ago

I’ve decided that my theme for this goal is ‘new’. I’m making it my challenge to experience 25 new things by my 25th birthday. It doesn’t matter what they are. They can be activities, recipes, new foods to try or places to see. As long as it’s new to me, it’s in! 2 years ago

260 days to do 25 things. 260 divided by 25 equals 10.4 days per thing, if you want to get down to the detail. I’m going to push hard on this goal. I would be so proud of myself if I got to the full 25.

Grow a seed from scratch. I’ve made a start on this one. Seedlings ahoy.

Skydive. I have a burning desire to throw myself out of a plane and float down to the ground. Note: this one will require saving up money.

Bring my lunch to work four days out of five. The longevity of this makes me slightly queasy, but I did it today. And if I did it today, I can do it tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after, and so on and so forth.

Save $1,000. This sounds a bit puny, but after my budgeting session the other day, and particularly taking into account the fact that I will pay off three debts using that budget and make a big chunk in the final two, this is a very realistic figure.

Pay my grandma back. One of the debts that will have disappeared by year’s end :)

See my brother. He lives in Mt Isa, Australia. It’s been far too long and I miss him.

Write Hugh a letter and post it. I have the stamps and I found the writing paper.

Be published once in a legal journal. I have been in touch with a prominent editor, he’s going to set up coffee, the cogs are turning.

Complete a Bikram yoga challenge. I’ll set the challenge myself – it may be a class everyday for three days, for five – who knows? Keeping things malleable at this stage.

Attend ten dance classes. It’s time to dust off those years of training. I miss dancing as a means of self-expression. Whatever the form, I find dance both primal and refined.

Meditate for fifty hours in total. This isn’t outrageously ambitious, but should make a difference nonetheless. I get an inkling that this will be one of my harded goals.

Run a half marathon. I am practically burning to do this. How I love the discovery that I am a runner after all! Note: research training programmes and dates, well in advance.

Learn basic sewing skills. Cos our machine is just sitting there gathering dust. And my craft repertoire will expand exponentially with the addition of this one skill.

Visit Waiheke Island. They have a nudist beach and I want to get nekked. Sometime before the summer is over, then.

Read Meditations. Marcus Aurelius sings to my soul.

Get a tattoo. Still a bit tentative on this one so will wait to see where the year takes me. If not a tattoo, certainly a piercing.

Finish five more interior design modules. By which point I’ll be halfway to becoming a qualified designer.

Become a fully-fledged lawyer. Two more exams to sit, and then I am done and dusted. And I won an award. I am excited because it means free dinner and drinks. Miser

Do a thirty for thirty challenge. Thirty items of clothing, thirty days. The word is remix.

Enter a writing contest. Anything, as long as I’ve written it and there’s a contest involved (actual prize not necessary).

Flex my entrepreneurial muscle. Nice and vague, we’ll see where it takes me :)

Have a decent crack at learning to drive. Every fibre of my being screams “I don’t wanna”. But I’m gonna give it a go, at least.

Go to the circus. I want to do this very much and I would also like to get dressed up when that day comes.

Draw inspiration from the Kama Sutra. Oh yeah, the old sex-related goal. It would be amazing if we could comlpete the Kama Sutra. I will look further into what that entails when I am not at my work computer.

Ski. I overcame my fear last year and want to improve my skills in 2012. The ultimate objective would be to make it out of the bunnt slope properly and to do a moderate run with confidence.

These 25 things will form the basis for many of my core goals for the year ahead, so you’ll be seeing them pop up on my list. I’ll keep this goal for reflecting, recapping, and recollecting. 2 years ago

Not sure what my 25 things will be but I have some ideas. (recipes to try, new foods to try, sights to see, things to do, etc)

Either way, turning 25 is a big deal to me so it seems appropriate to join this goal; to accompany and celebrate this milestone! 2 years ago
