My life is charmed. 8 months ago

Oh. My. God.
If I were religious,I’d say that “Ask And Ye Shall Recieve” Really works.
What people are calling “The Secret” seems to be working,as phony baloney as the book seems to read.
Here I was thinking I’d have a tonne of trouble finding people to back my idea.

My idea, by the way, has expanded from the public headshaving for cancer idea. My idea is to promote self esteem in women by showing real womens bodies in a NUDE CALENDAR, and fundraising money from sales plus other auxillary fundraising events would go to BC Cancer Foundation. I we raise x amount of dollars, all 12 of us calendar girls shave our heads publicly, with the hair going to locks of love.

So anyways, the people I was supposed to meet with on campus were closed when they said they’d be open. I was bummed. But I ended up walking into the Peer Helping centre, where the counsellor there told me that she literally had a whole committee of people behind her, looking for a project! And I’m looking for a committee! Not only that, but her friend is a photographer who does nudes, who has done HER nudes, and she personally vouches for him.

A committee and a photographer and a student group’s backing. Just like that.
Seek and ye shall find, it seems.
To women, and the men who love them!

This goal could also be "Inspire people" 8 months ago

I want to show people that beauty, real beauty, is nothing like my profile, is nothing like glossy magazines or good lighting or photoshop. I want people to feel inspired to wake up in the mirror and look at themselves and not think of their looks as a hindrance or a crutch. I want them to believe that it is the things we do and the change we make that make us who we are. And it is who we are, not what we appear to be, that make us attractive.

If every woman in the world rejected the idea that the right man (or woman) cares about her skin colour or eye colour or hair length or jeans brand, then materialistic people everywhere would go extinct. Then we would be forced to look at eachother… and keep looking. Keep digging. Keep learning about eachother until we found that the person there was or wasn’t what we wanted. The person there, and not the shell. And wouldn’t that be something?

I enjoy beauty. Truly. I take very, very good care of my hair. I enjoy make-up and glamour shots and the glossy magazines I referenced. I love trendy clothes and style and aesthetic and design. I revel in vanity. But I am NOT my vanity. I am not my clothes or make-up. I AM NOT MY HAIR. I don’t lean on these things to make myself feel whole or worthy or enough for any man or any one else.

I am my mind, and I am my character, and I am my integrity and class. Those things I cherish more than anything out of a tube or shaped painstakingly into face framing layers. And that’s why I’m shaving my head. That’s why I’m doing this fundraiser.

Bald Babes 8 months ago

So I want to shave my head. But then I thought, why shave my head alone for no good reason when I can shave my head with others and donate money to the BC Cancer Foundation at the same time? So now I’d like to organize and follow through with a large, University of Victoria-wide event that challenges the status quo of what makes a person beautiful. By getting women to collect pledges towards a very public head shaving rally, I can kill 2 birds with one stone: donate money to BC Cancer and donate hair to Locks of Love.

Wish me luck!! :)

I organized a fundraiser at my school and we raised over $1K to send to China for earthquake relief after the earthquake hit Sichuan province in May.

I’ll ask Carmen to help me meet SOS’s fundraiser and see if he or she will help me learn by helping.

Movie/Fundraiser night 2 years ago

I’m getting together with my co-director this Sat to clarify a few things and perhaps also enjoy a movie and pizza!

All the clues 2 years ago

...have been written. Now it’s the hard part…getting it to all come together! I feel really good about it being a success…people are talking about it already, so that can’t be a bad thing.

Organize a Fundraiser! 2 years ago

I believe that fundraising is an excellent way to support people who are out doing valuable work in the world. It’s also a great way to meet people who are passionate about the same things you are and who are motivated enough to try to change the world.

Using the website at firstgiving.com, you can make your own personal fundraising page for FREE! After you personalize your page you can send it out to everyone in your online network via email, your blog, etc!

The best thing about this website is that you can raise money for any registered non-profit! That means you can even start a fundraiser for a cause without needing an event to do it through! As you raise the money it is sent directly to the non-profit so there aren’t any worries about where the money is going or when its getting there. In my opinion, its the easiest way to start your own fundraiser, and who knows maybe it will spawn into something more! Good luck everyone and don’t hesitate to email me for advice!!!

I've taken the matter into my own hands 2 years ago

Ok…so I’ve started working on it again…on my own. Until we’re able to meet on a regular basis again I have to take initiative and keep it going…I am the head honcho of the operation after all. I’ve written 7 of the 12 location clues…and I think they’re a good mix of easy and challenging…I’ll review them with the girls to be sure that they like them, but I don’t see there being a problem. Besides I think it’s best to have one person writing all of the questions as style of writing vary and you want something like that to be consistent. Also…I’ve signed up for a web page…that’s going to take a lot of work on my part…all with good time. I would have to say that my proudest accomplishment with this goal so far is the logo that I’ve come up with…it’s very simple and basic…and the girls need to like it before it becomes official…but, again I don’t see there being a problem at least I hope not.

We're on hold 2 years ago

We had been doing so well…

I think Wednesday night meeting were a bad idea…too many fun things going on those night…and now one of the girls had another obligation those nights…maybe we can change the meeting to Thursday’s?

I know that we’re still doing it…I just hoped to be much more along by now.
