Back on the train after a year and a half off break!
I weighed 250 lbs at my heaviest – the winter 2008-2009.
For some reason, I was visiting my parents for the Christmas holiday 2008 and decided to start trying to lose some weight. I had some initial success, and the ball started rolling. Truly, the most motivating thing for me was actually losing weight! Each day that I stepped on the scale and read a number that was lower than the day before, I was motivated to eat right and go to the gym.
I had no secret recipe. It took a lot of work and a lot of sweat. I took soda, french fries, fried foods, and snack foods out of my diet. I tried to limit my deserts. I tried to give up foods and changing my eating patterns in a sustainable way. If you change to “diet” with every intention of returning to the way you use to eat, I don’t have much faith that the weight will stay off.
I got down below 200 lbs by the summer and I felt great. I was able to start running and biking again. I got faster on the ice and became a monster in my adult league! The 2009-2010 season, I have 20+ goals as a defenseman and was logging 40 minutes a game – fantastic!
I’ve competed in the mini-mussel triathalon the past two summers. I hope to be able to start stretching my distances out and start doing some longer races. Running, my weakest event, is in my crosshairs this summer and I hope to run a half marathon in October.
I started the beginning of this month hovering around 195lbs. I have weighed that much for the past 18 months or so and I am happy with that weight. I think, however, to really get fast and compete this summer in the distance event, I am going to need to shed another 15-20 pounds of fat that I am carrying around.
My new goal is to reach below 180 and I would love to settle in around 175lbs. That’s going to be a tough goal: I’m 6’3”.
I am down to 187lbs and back on the losing weight train!
I would love to get outside and pound some pavement, but its still 20 degrees outside! I am ready for some spring weather!!
