dragonfly35At the moment

I’m not even practicing, really, to be honest. Moving this goal aside as part of going back to basics. I still want to do it and will be back to working on it at some point in the future. 14 months ago

dragonfly35Still sporadically

working with prep poses for this, but I haven’t added the more difficult poses as I’d intended. This is my reminder to myself to do so… 15 months ago

dragonfly35Haven't really been working on this too much

but I’ve been doing some of the prep poses & trying to work up the upper body & especially the core strength needed. I’ve been working on the actions of high plank with knee to chest and the pushup from Chaturanga to Plank, and am increasing strength with that move slowly. I’m also doing Boat pose (from the YJ prep sequence) and other core exercises.

However, it’s time to stop avoiding the harder prep poses. :) I’ll start incorporating half boat (similar to some other exercises I’ve been doing, so it shouldn’t be a huge leap) and Lolasana with blocks. 15 months ago

gilloulalal1st attempt

I try it with push up handles (in place of yoga bricks)

Not very good the jump back was not far enough 16 months ago

dragonfly35The Yoga Journal article

has a whole home practice series aimed to work on this, but this isn’t the only thing I’m working on, so I think I’ll break it down into components. To start with, I’ll work the first few moves of the series:
  • Balasana
  • Utthita Chaturanga Dandasana (high plank) 10 breaths
  • Chaturanga Dandasana pushup 5-8 cycles (Down Dog -> Plank -> Chaturanga -> Plank -> Down Dog)

Incorporating this brief series into my practice will help me regain some of the upper body and core strength lost by not doing Vinyasas for a couple of weeks, and then I can build on that. 16 months ago

dragonfly35Holy cow!

This is the very advanced version of where this kind of strength and balance could go.

Just in case you think women can’t do that.

I may never take my practice there – or want to – but it’s sure beautiful. :) 16 months ago

dragonfly35Inspired

by this month’s Yoga Journal Home Practice section (here’s the video). I do not have a beautiful, controlled jumpback. The pickup-jumpback is basically an Astanga move. I don’t take that many Astanga classes, but I do teach Vinysasa and could use the strength and control to do this move. This video really shows the move in a graceful controlled manner. I want to start incorporating the prep moves into my practice to build the necessary core strength to do this well. 16 months ago
