Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

I’ve been wanting to write a final entry here but I have not been sure what to say exactly. I’ve been debating what to do with my account here: close it? remove all my goals so that my page is tidy? or leave as is? I’ve decided to leave as is, to mark this moment in time and give me the chance to review my stuff until the end of the year.

I’m not sure where I will continue with my goals. I wanted to stay with 43T as long as possible. I haven’t explored many other places online yet, but I will, once things go dark here.

Just wanted to give a big thanks to the creators of this website. This place has truly changed my life and my world-view in absolutely positive ways. I don’t understand the reasons for closing the website, it doesn’t make sense to me at all, but so be it. Change is inevitable and all good things must come to an end.

Endless thanks to all the lovely, amazing people around the world that have cheered me, written comments, encouraged, and interacted with me throughout my 6 years here. You are all so wonderful. I feel that the community here is what made this place so so special and one of a kind.

I decided to write this final entry here under this goal since I am so eternally grateful for this place and happy I stumbled across it in 2008.

Good luck and much love to everyone. 4 months ago

I found out that my dog escaped from my parents backyard this weekend, someone left the gate open. It was a thunderstorm and she is terrified of thunder. She ran and ran and ran with her tail between her legs and would not stop for good samaritans trying to call her over. My mom was the hero and ran after her, did not give up, and found her hiding under a parked car, trembling, and carried her 45 lb wet ass home in the rain. My pooch is like my kid and it makes me feel sick to know she was scared and panicking out in the thunder, but so glad and thankful she was not lost for too long. I love my mom. 15 months ago

So, so, so glad the days are getting longer and it’s light enough now for me and my girl to walk in the park after work. Hooray! 22 months ago

Took my pooch for a walk after work today, and although it was pretty blustery, there were so many little green things poking up from the ground. I saw daffodils, snowdrops, and bright purple, white, and yellow crocuses. So pretty.

I have also seen a couple trees with the beginnings of cherry blossoms on them. I am so excited for cherry blossom time in my neighbourhood! 22 months ago

I had a little bit of an off week, not sure why. There are highlights I want to focus on instead of the negative.

-Reconnecting with my mom over a Greek food and some thrift store browsing.

-Hiking Mt. Work with my own little family on the new Family Day stat holiday.

-A fun Chinese New Year dinner with my BF’s family and friends.

-Belated V day dinner with my man at a fancy restaurant downtown. I had seafood salad app and lamb main. It was truly great. Not sure what they put in the wine there but we both got a buzz after 1 glass.

-Busy at work this week but still feeling like I am on top of it all and kicking butt.22 months ago

Went for a walk with my pooch tonight at 9:30. We got outside and it was snowing lightly. We had the streets to ourselves. Very peaceful. 23 months ago

Today I received a personal thankyou note and coffee giftcard from a vendor I work with. It really means a lot to me that they would go out of their way to recognize me. I would like to share the coffee card with all my coworkers so we can go out for coffee together some time next week. This totally made my day. 23 months ago

Dec 23rd

- We made a family trip up island to visit my 92 year old granddad and his wife. I noticed a pretty drastic decline in his cognitive abilities (he could not remember my name the entire time, though he knew who I was). I am sad about that but very glad we made the effort to see him since this could be his last Christmas. We will go back in the spring.

-Glad the weather was decent. No snow on the highway.

-Glad to hang out with my brother and sister during the drive. Grateful for my lovely BF who did all the driving.1 year ago

A yoga happiness to mention… this week I was able to pull off warrior 3 pose with a totally flat back and long leg. It felt really good. Did it with my finger tips touching a wall though (not on a rock). I feel like I am really perfecting some poses and learning a lot. 2 years ago

Grateful that I’ve managed to avoid getting sick this week. 3 people at work have been ill, there is a gross bug going around. Luckily I haven’t caught it yet. I attribute this to my obsessive hand sanitizer use and regular vitamin & supplement consumption (C, D, echinacea, garlic, oregano oil) and NOT getting a flu shot. 2 years ago

Spent a few minutes at the top of Mt. Tolmie this evening with my 2 loves. The sky was glowing dark green and blue and city lights were beautiful. Watched a sea plane land in the inner harbour and could see Port Angeles flickering across the water. Then we went and got some sushi from Fujiya. 2 years ago

Monday Nov 5th

1)I had a great day I work. Finished learning the last part of a new task I’m taking on. So happy to be learning new stuff. Also cleared up a lot of niggly things that were on my to-do list. Very happy.

2)Being sandwiched between my two favourite creatures: my dog and my BF.

3)Spaghetti and salad dinner and Breaking Bad. 2 years ago

My BF took me out for my belated birthday dinner. We went to a really nice French restaurant. I don’t think I have ever been to such a ritzy restaurant before. The food was amazing. I tried some local wine, escargots, scallops for the main, and creme brulee. None of which I have had before and they were all delicious. I made a resolution recently that when I eat out I should order food that I’ve never tried before, rather than ordering the same old pastas etc. It was a good time. 2 years ago

I’ve been in a funk lately. The last few weeks have not been kind and it’s been hard to be cheerful and positive. I’m tired and the stress has caught up with me. But I have so much to be thankful and grateful for; I need to get back in my groove.

Yesterday’s appreciation:
-Cool crisp air, walking with my pooch, yellow leaves on the chestnut trees, fresh salad w/ hard-boiled egg, quiet time with myself. 2 years ago

Listening to this song on my drive home, with my pooch in the passenger seat next to me. Not many things make me happier than this.
This is my favourite song these days, the video is of Beacon Hill Park just a couple blocks from my home and of places that me and pooch walk on a daily basis in the evenings. It just makes me think of home and summer. 2 years ago

My peas are ready so it’s been awesome going out on the patio and just eating 3 or 4 right off the bush. There have been so many this year and each one tastes amazing. Things taste so much better when you grow it or make it yourself with love. 2 years ago

MY BF found a new motorcycle yesterday, (his previous crotch rocket was victim of a hit and run when he parked it on my street overnight) this means more summer fun for us cruising around the city.

Also, driving back home over the Malahat in the misty rain, with this song pumping in my car. 2 years ago

Not wearing a bra today. Enough said… 2 years ago

We were lucky enough to catch a couple minutes of the solar eclipse that happened yesterday at around 6:15pm. It was very cloudy yesterday so I didn’t think we would have the chance to see it, but driving down the highway I noticed the sun was fingernail shaped! The hazy clouds actually helped because we were able to look at the sun directly without getting blinded. We pulled over into the grocery store parking lot to watch it for a few minutes. Then the clouds got thicker and totally blocked out the sun, but it was pretty neat to witness for a few moment at least. I have never seen an eclipse of any sort before! 2 years ago

I worked really hard on Mother’s day organizing a BBQ by myself for our family and making the food. My efforts paid off though. Everyone had a great time and I could tell my mom was very happy and enjoyed every bit of it. I haven’t really taken the lead like that for family event before but I’m glad I did.

Also, I made cupcakes for the first time and they turned out pretty good! Although they were from a box… shhhh. I cut up some fresh strawberries and put them on top and they looked impressive.

Another thing! Through work I managed to get the full Microsoft Office software for only $11. Awesome deal! When I go back to school (in the fall maybe) this will be extremely useful. 2 years ago

Had an awesome yoga class tonight with my favourite teacher. I feel relaxed and refreshed now. 2 years ago

Had a great nighttime walk with my pooch. It wasn’t too cold and not windy at all. We walked through the neighbourhood, under the cherry blossom trees. I absolutely love it when there are so many petals on the ground it looks like snow and the branches are so heavy they sag with flowers. It was gorgeous. Then we headed up towards the beach and watched the distant lights from Port Angeles flicker across the ocean. Then home. It was rejuvenating after a crappy day. 2 years ago

Walking through the forest at the lake last Sunday with my guy and my pooch, and it started hailing, little ice balls bouncing around like popcorn through the trees and all around us. Absolutely beautiful. 2 years ago

Listening to this song in the car on my way to work this morning really put me in a good mood for the rest of the day. 2 years ago

Trying to keep this is mind on a daily basis. I have so much to be thankful for, but here are a couple things:

It’s cherry blossom time. My neighbourhood is covered in them, in the sky and on the ground. One of my most favourite times of year!

I am so grateful for my job. Even though it’s our busiest month and I have a lot of daunting tasks that I am not looking forward to in the next 2 weeks. I heard a saying once that “the best way to appreciate your job is to imagine yourself without it” and I agree. 2 years ago
