Bee Sagebaking chips

Hershey, why did I ever trust you? Now I have to figure out how to get the peanut butter and white chocolate chips out of my house. Maybe someone will trade me real chocolate ones for them.

Good news, it’s only nacho Doritos that have hydrogenated oil. The cooler Ranch ones are still okay! 6 months ago

Bee SageCandles

Figured out how to use up my Crisco without eating it! It was originally made to be used in candles, and when the power went out a few months ago, we played around with making some candles in chipped canning jars. We found that pressed cardboard makes the best wick. The canning jars are deep enough that you can pick them up and carry them around, too. They burn bright and don’t smell.

After the lights came back on, I put a used lid on the jar and put it in with our emergency kit. 11 months ago

Bee SageAnother making the Egman twitchy

Kraft Macs and Cheese Dinner packets. He just discovered these and loves the baked macaroni, and he adds leftovers to the top. So I’ll have to ask my grandmother for her baked macs & cheese recipe so the Egman doesn’t hate me for taking all his foods away.

I did find peanut butter without trans fats, but it was HARD. All but one kind at the store was loaded with them! Considering going to the “hippie” grocery store as the Egman calls it and buying the all-natural bulk stuff by weight. 14 months ago

Bee SageTwo frustrating ones

  • Ken’s ranch dressing
  • Skippy peanut butter

We can just use Kraft instead of Ken’s on the dressing (and that’s tge preferred brand anyway, the Egman got sucked in by a sale and didn’t check), but the peanut butter thing has the Egman upset. The man likes his Skippy. 16 months ago

Bee SageMore forbidden foods

  • Country Crock mashed potatoes
  • Wyler’s beef stock cubes
  • International hot cocoa powder

The cocoa is coffee flavored, so I don’t drink it, and I only got the mashed potatoes because they came free with a roast. I’ll never be bringing those into my house again, homemade are tastier anyway. The beef stock presents a small problem, but we’ll find a brand that’s hydrogenation free. 16 months ago

Bee SageHealth goal for 2012

I’m still working on eating fruits and vegetables, but I figured this was a good thing to do, as trans fats are unarguably bad for you. And I don’t care if the package says “0g of trans fat”, if there’s hydrogenated oil of any kind in it, it doesn’t come in my kitchen.

Things we can’t buy any more:
  • Almond bark
  • Tootsie Rolls
  • Jiffy mix
  • Doritos
  • Cheetos
  • Nestle cocoa packets
  • Crisco (giant tub o trans fat!)
  • to be continued…

Luckily, we don’t buy too many processed foods, and everything except the Doritos I can happily and easily live without or find a substitute for. I am going to miss the Doritos… 16 months ago
