its funny to me, cuz i was doing this BEFORE i ever heard the words “collage” or “ephemera”,,,i have collages i made at 8 & 10 yrs old…. Now of course, i’m Not saying theyre any great pieces of art or anything, but i guess thats counter to the whole idea anyway…
i really glad i’ve re-discovered this, as it were, tho i never really stopped, its just more that the world/cottage industries have caught up to what i always loved to do. My parents used to call it “piddling with papers”, but there was always something so soothing about it, like fitting together the pieces of a puzzle, and creating different effects. I keep a whole drawer (large, flat & deep) of clippings, pictures, postcards, bits & pieces i come across, and when i start a new journal, i collage the first page with words & images of where i’m at at this time…
I relish that there’s now an abundance of classes to take, workshops, groups, stores, etc…i love the whole process of browsing thru HobbyLobby or Michaels or eBay for supplies, & learning new techniques in workshops. I’ve taken in the past year: “Shrine-making”, “Creativity & Spirit”, “SoulCollage Workshop” & “Creative Collage Techniques Workshop”—classes you just would Not have found ten years ago…
i’m also loving all the magazines and books now devoted to this area, all the shops selling great stickers, collaging paper, rubber stamps, all the wonderful ideas i come across in different online groups & articles. I’m currently reading Nick Bantock’s “the Artful Dodger”, and enjoying his descriptions of his creative, collaging journey…...it’s affirming to hearing the experiences of a master collager…
