We were up on the balcony, the crowd was fashionably late to fill up the brand new Melkweg Max hall to the brim exactly when the support act, Alamo Race Track, started playing. That band was really cool and I hope to hear more of them.
When AM started playing, the crowd went mad and even fell over during the first song (so I’m told, I had to run to the loo and was back on the last chord).
This was the first gig in Holland that I’ve seen in 10 years where the crowd jumped like crazy, people shouted the lyrics along, there was stage diving and lots and lots of crowd surfing. The band played some new tunes and loads from their first album. They nailed the old stuff and the new material sounds promising.
The Monkeys were as nonchalant as ever, and we were having an absolute ball.

We’re off to the show.

They sold maximal two tickets (30 Euro p.p.) per person, and bf and I could easily have bought 4 and sold 2 of them on for 150 Euro a piece. Instead, we bought only two. Part of me thinks I’m dumb for not trying to make some money. The other part of me thinks that that money will be made on the backs of Artic Monkeys fans, and that Instant Karma is gonna get you.

We queued up at about 8:30, with the ticket sales kicking off at 11. But there were only a maximum of 1500 tickets available, and the queue grew behind us to reach completely around the Stadsschouwburg, my rough estimate of maybe 1200 people. We were early enough to be among the lucky first half. The show was sold out within an hour and 5 minutes.
