Such an excellent way to relive my youth..even if I am only 24!!
I have about 70 of them now and the collection just keeps getting bigger, unfortunately along with my credit card bill (the blighters are quite expensive!).
I was considering stopping collecting when I received a parcel from America with 13 Barbies in and came across Western Fun Barbie which was my favourite as a child. My boyfriend thought I’d gone mad as I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face all day…Sad? Yes, I may well be… :)
I just wasn’t a Barbie fan, but I had a few relatives who would buy me and my sister Barbies, just as a generic holiday/birthday gift. I was into Legos and books and computer games, and I really never “got” playing with Barbie. Somewhere in my parent’s house, I have a set of unopened Holiday Barbies from the mid-80s. If I could just get the on eBay, maybe this goal would be worth it after all…
...but when I was younger I had quite the collection. My very favourite Barbie was Hollywood barbie – she had this shiny gold jacket that I just loved, and the shiniest golden barbie hair ever. I feel quite melancholy now thinking about her.
hippie1427 Is going to be uber productive this year
They weren’t mint condition barbies… several had broken ankles, and “clipped” fingernails… but they were my collection, and I loved them. Until I stored them in the shed, having grown out of playing with them, and my dear mother sold them in a yardsale, without ever asking me about them….. : (
but they are so worth having.
Have been collecting them since I was 2 maybe and finished collecting way before I was in high school! :) But I have a cute collection of the dolls plus a bubble bath, a cupboard and even a horse drawn battery-operated carriage. Oh! I have 1 Skipper, 1 Ken and 2 babies too! :)
Would love to pass it on to my great-great grandaughter someday as a vintage gift. Hee hee!
Have had a Barbie collection since high school. Started getting obsessed, then made my first web page in 1994. Before all the official companies even had websites. I got into a legal discussion with Mattel over copyrighted images, got around that by taking my own pictures, and voila!—my page has been up ever since.
I landed a job in 1997 as a webmaster for the local newspaper and for Indiana University’s Athletics Dept. (www.iuhoosiers.com) I have since quit to be a stay at home mommy, but still create websites on the side.
So, Thanks to my insane collection, and NO THANKS to Mattel who wanted me to kill the site back in 1995, I have a profession that I am good at!
