Catch an enormous, ugly fish with a mouth full of sharp teeth

I was going crabbing off of a stream behind my Aunt’s summer house in Shirley, Long Island. We caught this thing which I think was called a mudfish, which was actually a culmination of my worst nightmares given form, albeit lazy looking and gasping for air (most probably). I don’t know what kind of mud this thing needed those teeth for, but it scared the living shit out of me, which at that age, really didn’t take much work. For all I know this was a guppy with hormonal problems, but it seemed scary at the time.

We tossed it back. I don’t think we could have made gumbo or anything else with it. 6 years ago
