Garage Sales, Anyone? 2 years ago

Going to garage sales is not an unpleasant experience that erodes at one’s dignity as some people seem to think. In my opinion, it is an exciting game that cannot be bought in stores. What I enjoy the most is deciphering the story behind the items, their history and the people selling them. When you think about it, garage (saleing?) really is a hidden art. There are innumerable variables to consider, with just as many techniques to master! Why do I do it? You never know what you’ll run across. It’s the thrill of the hunt and the excitement of discovery. (I hope I’m not scaring anyone by my excessive enthusiasm!)

    Really? 2 years ago

I drove by a “garage sale” early this morning leaving F’s, but again, I didn’t stop.

Why? Because it was literally, and I mean literally about eight items stretched out in a straight horizontal line spanning the length of two folding tables.

    Items I saw:
    1. An old rotating fan.
    2. A HUGE 80’s plastic flashlight w/handle.
    3. A box of nails.

    And so on.

    Worst garage sale ever.

    Failed Sale. 2 years ago

I drove by one on my way home today. I didn’t stop. It couldn’t have been MORE convienient for me, there were even two HUGE parking spaces, big enough to accomodate my truck RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET!

Why didn’t I go? Because I have the DEATH COUGH. The thought of getting out of my car and breathing in the frigid Inner Richmond air petrified me, so off I drove, with a few almost foot-to-brake I’mgonnaturnthefriggincararound movements.

So now it’s like I have buyer’s remorse, but I didn’t even get to buy anything. Is it reverse buyers remorse if you skip it alltogether? I never see garage sales in my hood so much, so I keep thinking about it and all the tchatchkis and tea cups I could have bought, it’s killing me! Hah.

Perhaps I’m delving too much into this…

I need to do something about this death cough.

And we're fixin' to do this in just a mo' 3 years ago

I’ve got me shoes on, wallet and keys. Now to get the kids, just as quick as I please.

We’re headed out west, bound for Lyons. If you see a gold pickup, wave and yell “43 Things!”
