When I started my 43 things account years ago, I wanted to open a bakery. Since then I’ve had the opportunity to work as an assistant to a pasty chef. I’m still not sure if I want to open a bakery or a restaurant one of these days. I’ve even thought about a deli/bakery. I’ve got this one really crazy idea, but it’s still to random to even mention on the blog. I do know that this is one of those long term goals. My family and friends tell me I have great cooking skills but I know that I still need a lot of work and practise until I’m ready to open up my own eatery.
People have jokingly suggested that I go to culinary school. But as I always say to them, I believe it’s more logical to begin my career as an engineer. Perhaps this bakery thing will be a retirement thing (God willing). I need to do this engineering thing while my brain is still sharp. I always can be an amateur baker/cook, but a hobbyist engineer…? Not so practical.

I love baking, and I always have. I’m pretty good at it too. I want to make people happy. Sweets make lots of people happy. Including me :] So I plan on baking to bring happiness to the world. Sounds stupid, but its true :]

I would like to have a place where people can come and visit with each other while enjoying a piece of cake or pie or they can order a cake or whatever to take with them. I want the place to be very welcoming and enjoyable both for my customers and for myself.

Eventual goal

I know that by opening a bakery, I’m basically going to gain a good 10 pounds but I’ll accept it if it means I get to bake goodies all day. When I’m older and have nothing to do, I would very much love to open a bakery. I have this freaky love for baking things, and I’d love to share it with the world!

I own an Event Planning business, but baking is my passion! I love it, I love tweaking recipes to make them my own, and seeing people enjoy what I bake just adds to the fun! We are moving in the very near future and I will be checking out the different farmers markets in the area, find one to sell at and work hard to create a loyal following! Then from there, open a bakery…. I can see it just ahead

i’m more confident in my skills . . . and now i’m considering locations: boston or dallas. boston’s tough because my bosses are here . . . dallas has a lot more room for growth and opportunity. however, boston’s got people who are used to artisan bread—i feel that dallas people would prefer to buy mrs. baird’s bread. am i wrong?

You know as I set around thinking of things that I can do to create a better life for my husband and myself, I think what talent do I have? What do people want? Well I’m a great baker and I make pretty darn ggod cakes! My freinds and family say I should do this. I have been the bread winner in my family for 12 years. My husband and I have been married for 14 years, but 12 years ago tragedy struck. He was diagnosed with cancer, it was at a stage 4 when we discovered it. He is probably the most wonderful man I have ever met. I do not mind taking care of him and our boys. I would really like to be able to provide a better quality of life for him and myself of course. This would provide a stable income and it would such a pleasure to come to work everyday and do something you love.

It’s been my dream for a while to go to pastry school and one day own a bakery. It will be a while but I can see this happening in the future. My aunt owns a couple bakeries in Miami and hopefully that will help me when the time comes and I can either work with her or get some advice from her end. I love making cupcakes and working with interesting flavor combinations. I hope I can make a life for myself with this dream someday.
