How to play guitar more often

I inherited a couple of guitars from my grandfather. One of hem is a really nice steel string acoustic. I learned to play when I was a child. I took up jazz and blues on trombone from grade school through college. I still have my trombone but it’s not exactly neighbor-friendly to practice on. I pulled out the guitars and the chord charts. Now I just need to get back into it.

Last year, I realised all I wanted to be was a sexy guitar playing goddess. I got the sexy guitar and I was playing an hour every night for a while there. Where did my wonderlust go? I love playing so much.. I’m going to find that damn guitar tuner and give my ibanez a work out tommorrow.

Play Guitar More Often 22 months ago

I’ve been playing guitar since 2 years back. I’ve played and learned all by myself, never requesting professional help. While I’m doing my hard search for a teacher near my zone, I got no motivation to play guitar nor learn new songs. I can’t read music and probably I don’t play in the right way it should be played.
I joined this group in order to try and get motivation and learn new stuff. I hope it’s possible.
Regards,
Miguel Esteves

I have succeeded at digging up the instrument from under my bed. Everything seems to be working as it should, even my fingers are producing a more or less decent sound. I’ve been playing more than in months. But after two days this is just a half-time score. So far so good, see how long it will last, my goal is to play an hour a day.

Stuck in a rut 2 years ago

I’ve made a bit of progress of late, written a few parts of songs but usually I get fed up with them. Being in two bands, both of whom are beginning to write music now, I really need to sort this out. I feel hindered by how little theory I know and can apply, considering how long I’ve been playing, must be about 10 years now. I think I just need to play guitar more often in a casual manner – mostly I only practise for an hour on the morning of my lessons, and I end up playing the same things over again too easily. By playing whenever, ideas are more likely to come to me and just noodling about under no pressure will make it easier to be creative. :)

It’s just a matter of finding things you want to play and creating the environment and motivation. I used a band to do the latter.

Find a song you like, and play it every day!!! It also helps to alternate between two songs, I’m doing one by Bach and one by Howe.

Broken Habit 3 years ago

I used to play my guitar all the time and I loved it, made me feel better and stuff, but then I had a couple of hand injuries (Pushed off a barstool and landed hand first -sprained wrist – and shut my fingers in the car door – broken fingers) and I stopped playing. Now I’m better I can’t get back into the swing of playing again and when I try I can never decided what to play and give up after a while.

the amp sounds killer. i think i’m going to call it the “box o’ hatred” henceforth.

i played twice in the past two weeks. not sure if i was procrastinating, but it sure was fun. i’ve really let my playing go. if i were taking it more seriously, the current state of my fingers would be frustrating. maybe i’ll practice regularly. i’ve been listening to some inspiringmusic lately.

p.s.: the first twelve seconds of this song are, quite simply, the fucking balls.

also-my apologies for linking to a myspace page. it won’t happen again.
