Our assignment for photo class is to take some photos with movement in them and try to use different shutter speeds and techniques with it. Today was gorgeous with sunshine and 60F/16C temps. I got out my bike and rode the Minute Man Bike Trail for the full 20 miles (32km). It was fun and I was able to get the shots that I needed.

Today was an old favorite winter hike up Mt Wachusett. I hike the lower part on trails and walk the closed auto road on the higher parts. They built a new fire tower on top and opposite the side I came up is a ski area. It is about a two hour hike, round-trip 2 months ago
Still looking for local hikes, I went over to an urban park called Mines Falls. This park follows Nashua’s old power canals which brought water from the Nashua River to the mills in the downtown area. It was more of a walk along wide, level trails than a hike. I covered about 6 miles. It would be nice to see it with some leaves on the trees. Everything here is still rather grey. 2 months ago
I had a free day today and was tired of local hikes. Years ago, someone had told me that The Flume was a great place to hike and snowshoe in the winter. This is a set of gorges in the woods of the Mt. Washington Valley that are a tourist attraction in summer. It is closed in winter but the parking lot is plowed and you can hike in. There are about two miles of trails and it was a perfect day for it, sunny and about 50F/10C. The snow was packed well enough that I could get around with ice grippers on my boots. Along one of the gorges, there were ice climbers slowly climbing the iced over cliff faces. The covered bridges looked especially pretty. A bench with a view of the mountains was a perfect place to eat the sandwich I’d brought for lunch. Walking back and forth around a few sections to get photos, I probably hiked well over two miles. After, I drove up to get photos of Mt. Washington.

These two mornings, I got up early and went out to a trail head we found on Gates Pass Road. I hiked up in the dark with a light to get photos over the city at sunrise. It was maybe a mile long hike each way. Hiking in the dark was more challenging (especially when I followed a drainage and not the trail for a while one morning) but the sunrise was the reward. 3 months ago
I haven’t been doing much with this goal and would like to get back to it. I did half of my usual 3 mile hike. The conservation land is having timber harvested to try to maintain the forest. This made the trails messy in spots. In addition, there was some pretty soft snow on some sections. The icy sections were a breeze, because I have a pair of YakTrax to grip the ice. It was nice to get out though and the weather today was warm for this time of year.

I’ve not walked here in a few years, preferring instead the conservation land near our home. It is a summer camp for boys and girls. It is open for only two months so from September to early June, it is a great place to take a walk. The white buildings give it that quaint feeling. During the summer, we can hear off in the distance the loud speakers making announcements and calling campers to events. It is odd to have your town thought of as someone’s idea of a camp out in the woods, especially given that we are a bedroom community for Boston. But it is rather nice having it in our town. 7 months ago
Other than the ride in Reykjavik, I’ve not done much with this lately. I don’t usually hike a lot in the middle of summer. Today was a nice late summer’s day. I did a 3 mile hike on some local conservation land with great trails. It was fairly level along a brook. It felt good to get out there again. 8 months ago
My wife and I rented bicycles in Reykjavik and rode along the water front around the city. The rental shop provided a good map. We saw this lighthouse and a geothermal beach. Cutting back across the city, I took the wrong turn and brought us up to the highest point in town, but we had a great view and a fun ride down. On the way back, we stopped at a famous hot dog stand and got a couple of hot dogs with everything.

Distance – just 3,50 km – to and from work
Interesting thing – riding in the middle of the night on my bike. Awesome feeling. 9 months ago
Because of some errands I had to ride a bike with my dad today. It was rather short but nice ride. We were going to the other part of our city, but I didn’t take any pictures.
Distance: 12 km
Total distance in 2012: 100 km :) 9 months ago
It was a beautiful and sunny day. I got up a little earlier and rode my bike to the city center. I visited several popular places. Here is one of the walls of our market square:
The higest building with a word “Biblioteka” is a library. American Corner is located on the second floor. Our market square is usually crowded and full of life. Something interesting often happens. Yesterday I saw those big colorful bubbles. I watched them for a couple of minutes together with happy children.
Then I rode my bike through several small streets and took a couple of pictures of interesting places and small dwarfs located here and there. This is a street with art galleries:
Before riding back home I rode to the market square again and took a picture of the city hall.
And here is a place I plan to visit sometime, where you can buy and drink hot chocolate (and probably more):

Today at work one of the colleagues asked me to come in the evening to work for a moment. I agreed and then thought – why not kill two birds with one stone? I can take my bike and ride to the park for a moment and then to work. So I did it. I took some pictures and really enjoyed my short ride.

It was a tough week to get any riding in. Work was pretty hectic and yesterday was pouring rain. It cleared a bit this morning but was still pretty damp out and very cool. I chose a 14 mile (23 KM – total) out and back on a route that would allow me to take some pictures I had promised a friend.
On my ride home a good size bear entered the road about 30-40 yards/meters ahead of me. It took me a moment to realize it was not a dog or something. I’ve seen one in the wild once but it was from the relative safety of a car. This is the first time I’ve encountered one out in the open. As is typcial, he wanted nothing to do with me and just wanted to cross the road and go off into the woods. My iPhone was buried in my pocket, and he disappeared before I could manage to get to it out. It was one of those moments that combines awesome and scary. 11 months ago
Today I had my longest ride (28 km). I visited the old places where I was 5 years ago and went into the woods. I enjoyed nature, reeds and fresh air :)
As usual I met strange animals: sheep, cows, geese and a pigeon that looked like my cat O.o (sorry no pictures of pigeons). The sheep didn’t cooperate and showed me their tails (they were more interested in food than me).
I found this sweet old house, Polish style:
The trip was good and interesting. The weather was partly cloudy. I am tired now :D 11 months ago
I’ve done a couple of rides this week.
Yesterday, I got up early and did a ride before it got warm and humid. I did a 12 mile (19 km) ride out and back over a hilly course. The hills seem less troublesome with each ride.
Today, the air was clear and dry. I looped out to Starbucks for coffee and pumpkin bread and then home for a total of 25 miles (40 km). The highlight was spotting a deer runnning off into the woods. 11 months ago
Today we rode our bikes along the river in search for a root to the aquarium. We were very close to the bridge I saw yesterday on my trip (Rędziński bridge). It was a short ride (12 km).

Today was beautiful weather and I had a chance to ride my bicycle :)
There is a new bridge in vicinity, a bridge built especially for upcoming Euro 2012. The bridge is quite big and it looks amazing by night.
I enjoyed my time by the river (no swans this time) and in the forest, and finally I ended up in quite unexpected place, with horses. They allowed me to take pictures of them and to touch them. Foals were playing around their mothers.
Sweet animals. I even have a picture with them :) The horse wanted to put his head into my bag ^^
Well, the picture is not perfect but who cares :P I even had a chance to ride a horse – which was awesome and completely unexpected!
I had some really nice moments, I felt very united with nature and with life. This was an abundant day for me.
While on my way back I was able to take more pictures of that bridge from different place.
And the last, a bonus (because I always meet strange animals):
Haha! Sweet pigs, very friendly :)
This was a very nice bike trip with an amazing adventure.
Distance: 13 km + an hour of horse riding. 12 months ago
Finally after so many days of preparations I had my first bike ride this year. I did 11 km. It was a bit chilly but I wore warm clothes.
First I took a path through a park – the birds were singing, lovely couples cuddling, some people jogging.
I rode to Millenium Bridge.
Here is how the bridge is visible from the park.
Then I kept approaching it until I was directly under the bridge, the sensation is always extraordinary :)
Millenium Bridge a bit closer.
Then I went along the river (Oder/Odra) and I passed some beautiful landscapes. Suddenly the sun appeared and all seemed so bright :)
I came closer to the river and like always I met swans… It is my luck I guess because this animal is stalking me, wherever I go – swans are there.
This one here was hissing on me while I took a picture ;)
Then it began to get dark so I headed home.
I must admit it was a very enjoyable ride :D 12 months ago
I only managed one ride this weekend but it was 27 miles (42 km). My legs felt stronger than the last time I did this ride. It was absolutely perfect weather, warm with nice sunshine. No issues with the bike – always good news. 12 months ago
One problem with taking two weeks to go on a cycletour is that it leaves you with two weeks less to get projects done around the house. I’m trying to balance being in good shape with taking care of the house. This weekend, I did two 12 mile (19 km) rides. Though relatively short, the middle six mile stretch is all mile-long hills (up and down x 3). It allows me to train rather quickly and the country road is pretty. I can check on the geese and their goslings as I go by a small pond. I feel like my legs are getting stronger 12 months ago
Today I made a small preparation for my first trip this year – I changed a battery in my speedometer (or maybe a cycle computer?). It needs battery change once every two or three years so it’s not too often luckily. Now I have to prepare my bike because it’s dirty like hell and the tires are flat and lack of air.
Edit: I prepared my bicycle :) Now I have to ask someone to help me with tires.12 months ago
I decided to join this goal because it’s high time to spend more time outside. The weather here is finally good.
I plan on climbing the Lonely Mountain (just joking, the real name is Ślęża) with friends this month and also I want to track my bicycle trips. 12 months ago
I did the same 27mi/42km ride as last week but with significant wind./ It wasn’t bad and my legs are feeling stronger. Slowly but surely, I am getting in shape. 12 months ago
Today was a 27 mile (43 km)ride in a loop through several towns. It’s my favorite ride and the first time I’ve done it this season.
My favorite section is a long downhill with several turns. It makes me feel like I’m flying.
If I go in the early morning, there is a Starbucks for coffee. Today, I rode in the afternoon and stopped at a local town common for water and a Clif Bar.
This tree was on the common

I did my short loop (18 mi or 30 km)that I had done a few weeks ago. A back injury has kept me from cycling for a couple of weeks. Today, my back felt better and actually pretty comfortable in the saddle. It was a nice ride with temps in the 70s(F). Some of the apple orchards are beginning to bloom. 13 months ago
I managed to get in two hikes this weekend.
Yesterday’s hike was more of an hour-long amble through conservation area near our home.
Today, I went back up to Mt Wachusett. The snow had melted in all but a few places and the trail conditions were surprisingly dry for this time of year. I was able to use different routes to go up and back. Each are challenging and had steep sections that I generally don’t do if it is wet or icy.
This picture was taken on the summit of Mt Wachusett and shows Mt Monadnock to the north.
