OK, I’ve started watching more programmes in Chinese. It’s the only way. I’ve got to surround myself in the langauge. I’ve got to think it. I literally found myself unable to talk to my mum today. I’d start speaking to her, and then break in English, which I really hate doing. I really can’t have it slipping away! 5 years ago

I’ve made an agreement with my Mom that from now on I can only talk to her (and if my confidence allows it, other Chinese speakers) in Chinese and nothing else. No more Chinese-English hybrid talk. Also I’m going to start reading more in Chinese, be it newspaper or book. Granted I’ve the reading level of a six year old… but it has to be all or nothing for me now.
It may be a small move, but I need to get better in the near future or don’t at all. The older I get the harder it will be to return to a good level of fluency. 5 years ago
