learn maths

Lord I do hate me some maths! I still have nightmares about standing at the board in Mrs. O’Connor’s first grade class trying to work out a simple addition problem. Whilst all the other children had already taken their seats, I would be up there for ages before that woman had the decency to ask me to sit down. I don’t know if I can blame her entirely for my mathematical incompetence, but I think it started with her, and just carried on into the present day. The thing is, my whole family are good at maths. My gran was a math teacher, my dad is excellent at it, my mother is competent at it, and even my sister managed Bs throughout school. I’m the only one with this ‘affliction’.

I actually draw a blank when faced with any sort of number challenge. It’s like some part of my brain shuts down and curls into fetal position. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’m a creative person. Drawing, geography, languages, all the humanities are my best subjects, but I always struggled when it came to the sciences. I just barely graduated from high school with a D in Chemistry.

I would like to learn maths for my own personal gain, so I won’t feel like such a numpty when someone asks me to divide or use a decimal point. I mean, this is basic stuff. I should be able to do it, rig

im really bad at maths and i always find myself avoiding situations when it comes to maths, though sometimes its easier said than done, when there r events like the tabletop sale ive been asked too help with on saturday, and like wen i have to leave college and look for a job til i decide to finish my studies, its so difficult trying to find a job that doesnt involve numbers…..ha ha
no doubt ill find myself in a job where i have to give change….u know everyone keeps saying to me that the till does all the work and i dont have to worry but….err not always right!!!!, i can imagine me standing there refusing the 5 pence they offer me to save on change and my till being in desperate need of that 5p and looking like a right fool coz ill not know wot to do and be really confused and ill go to pieces…ha ha
i must learn a maths course….im gonna look into it this week….;)

learn maths

Maths is like magic to me. It’s rather intriguing but completely inexplicable. I’m not sure what I’d use it for really but I’d like to learn it anyway. I’m sure it would open up a whole new range of posibilities.

Like a lot of people with an arts background I’m just a bit scared of numbers. I’m a crossword addict but I fear Su Doku just cos it’s numbers (even though there’s no actual maths involved!).

I want to find out what it means to do maths for fun, and be able to use it to solve problems.
