How I did it: I finally cleared out the cabinet. I wasn't ready to get rid of all of the glasses. I don't have enough ceramic tumblers to replace them with yet (shoemaker's kids and such). But I did reduce the count. That made enough space for the handmade ceramics - which is what we use more often. Having space in the cabinet makes emptying the dishwasher less aggravating. Still need to make some ceramic tumblers.
And, I even donated the glassware to Habitat today - no more rattling sounds in the car.
