When I was 3 there was a rumour that CN was going to shut down all the rail lines in Nova Scotia. My father was mortified that his daughter would presumably never get a chance to “ride the rails” so to speak and promptly bought us train tickets. However, since we didn’t really have any place to go he bought the tickets from Halifax to Bedford, a town that is about a 10 minute drive outside the city. It has since joined Halifax and is one supercity. So we got on the Halifax-Montreal train and I vaguely recall it being supercool. About five minutes out of the city the entire train slowed to a crawl to let me and my dad off. It was one of the coolest things of my childhood that I remember though today I wonder how much that five minute ticket cost.

I recently took an overnight train from Ottawa to Prince Edward Island, Canada…and it was “love at first sight ( ride)”...I found the motion to be super-soothing, and we went through many different weather situations !! So nice to just relax and let someone else worry about getting us there…lol
It convinced me that a trip across this great country of mine would be AWESOME !!!
I reccommend it to anyone !! :)
