Ok.......... 3 months ago

So I haven’t ‘officially’ started this yet, but when I go to class, I park on the far side of the campus. This gives me quite a walk to get to the room and is quickly reminding just how enjoyable walking is. (even the evening it was raining!) : )

Walking 3 months ago

I love to walk, but I like to have somewhere to walk ‘to’! I’m thinking that I will choose someplace far away like CA and pretend I’m walking there. Each day, I will mark on a map how much further along I got. That way walking down the road and back will be more interesting.

Mission accomplished.

If I can walk every morning this week, I’ll treat myself to the spa.

pedometer 4 months ago

The PE coach gave me a pedometer to see if “beating my step count” would be motivational to my students. I walk between 6,000 and 11,000 steps a day (no wonder I am too tired for the treadmill at night and anxious to walk on the weekends! Now I want to steadily get between 9 and 10 thousand steps. That’s a mile right?

so far so good... 7 months ago

i started walking to & from work… which is about half an hour of walking each. i’ve gotten my boyfriend to walk with me after dinner – we’ve been exploring new parts of the city because of it. it’s been wonderful, for my health & for our relationship.

we missed a day yesterday because it’s so cold. i want to get to the point where no matter what we want to walk after dinner. i’ll need to get warmer athletic clothing if i want to survive the rest of the winter though!

been walking everyday for the last two and a half months. I feel much better about being in shape. I feel it gives me something to look forward to everyday, and I love going out into the neighborhood and seeing what’s happening. I highly recommend a 40 minute walk everyday if you can. I need to do this because I am facing some health issues, and I need to turn myself around. I also feel like my energy level is increasing. So I will see where this will go.

So I signed up for the America on the Move thingy online. (You sign up to “hike” a virtual trail in x many days, then track your progress each day by writing down how many steps you’ve taken that day from your pedometer—it then shows you how far you would have made it thus far on a map of whatever trail you’ve decided to virtually “hike”.) Its supposed to help motivate you to start walking/exercising/moving more.

Nice start right? Only with the colder weather I’ve been a wuss and haven’t gone out walking since I brought my kids trick-or-treating, and seriously, that shouldn’t count.

So, I’m setting my pedometer next to the PC, since I check my email every morning first thing. Hopefully, this will be a decent reminder for me to put the thing on and actually get out there and walk a bit more.

When in Las Vegas, walk 22 months ago

FOR me, weather was a factor. I was hard getting into the habit when I lived in Minnesota. But when I moved temporarily to Nevada, ti was just so easy. Now that I’ve moved to Colorado, I am optimistic this will remain a habit.

walking is great 22 months ago

its great exercise and destressing. And you get to see places that you never notice in the car

gorgeous summer night... 23 months ago

We went for a walk in the park tonight. It felt really nice to get out and get some fresh air. Plus, I always sleep better when I get some sort of exercise during the day.
The buddy system is nice, but I think the only way I’d be able to walk daily, and seriously start losing some weight, is if I go it alone. I don’t think T likes being outside as much as I do, and I don’t think she’s as interested in making this a daily thing as I am.
