Josh ...and life just rolls on like a river.
...but my wife is a HUGE Harry Potter fan, so I think I owe it to her to read the books since it’s important to her. I’ve seen all the movies so far, and it’s fun, so hopefully I’ll enjoy the books, too.
How I did it: It was really because of school. At my school, you read a book, take a test on it, get points, then get prizes. I needed some points and I overheard my teacher saying the Harry Potter books were worth a lot of points. I read the first book and was amazed at how GREAT it was! I went to the library and checked the other books out. After I finished the series, I watched all the movies. Now, I'm the biggest Harry Potter nerd! But I don't care, because I LOVE the series!! READ IT!!!!
Lessons & tips: After you finish one book, you want to know what happens next!!
Resources: No resources really helped me, the library lady was really nice and helpful, though.

Although it’s a little sad that the series is over I’m glad of it. The 7th book didn’t impress me very much, possibly because it was a lot of aimless meandering and things just seem to “work out” for Harry. The 2nd half of the book picked up a bit and I actually got interested in the story and it ended alright but there were a lot of unanswered or unsaid things throughout the entire series which was a bit irritating. Also the little sugar coated ending I felt was a bit much, maybe she was trying to give us closure on the characters but it felt a bit Disney “they all get married, have babies and live happily ever after”.
Glad I read the series though, it was fairly well written and quite captivating at times (would love there to be a real Hogwarts!) :)
Lisa is relaxing. :)
I’ve read them all and I love them! They just get better every time I re-read them, especially the 7th one. :D

Finished Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince – stupid Snape! I can’t believe that they killed off Dumbledore in the last 20 pages!!!!!!! WTF!!!!! It can’t be true, I was madly reading trying to see how it was going to try around but it didn’t!! Need to read the next one immediately but it’s down at my house which I don’t get back to until next week.
The 5th book was good, probably not as well written as the 4th I think but definitely starting to go with the older readers, i.e. relationships and what not. Cannot believe they “killed” (still not sure I really believe it) Dumbledore!

Finished reading Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. Was a really really great book!!
Had so much more in it then the movie did, loved them continuing the story of the house elves. Did prefer in the movie that they used Longbottom’s advice to help Harry in the swimming challenge rather then Dobby’s in the book. Just liked the involvement of other students.
Really great book though, had a million things throughout where I thought “way better and more detailed then the movie” which is the way a good book should be.
This book definitely raised my opinion or the series and author.

Just finished the third book Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Good book, interesting how they described the ending with the doubling up of their time, would have been a challenge. Good to hear things in more details too then the movies can go into. Man this poor idiot Harry has a lot of things go wrong, but I guess that’s life lol.
Started reading the 4th book and I love the beginning! Great to have something different then “Harry was in his cupboard…”, “Harry was locked in his room…”, “Harry was hiding under his sheets…” etc. Liked that at least the first chapter was completely different and interesting.

I’ve re-read the 2nd book now and I’m onto the 3rd. Figured out this was the one I read before (not because I remember it but because I was looking through my stored books the other day and I found a copy of it). About half way through now so shouldn’t be long before I finish it.

I borrowed the whole series off my friend Laura! She rocks! Have just finished re-reading the first one and am on to the 2nd one. Decided to re-read as it’s been so long since I’ve read them and also I think you appreciate books more when you’ve read them a few times and pick up on little things you might have missed the first time.

Fairly okay book, again very like the movie, which was great. The movie had a few more witty lines and it took out any rhyme-singing areas which I think leaves it appealing to a wider audience. I’m sure I’ll get shot by this statement but I really do feel her writing (or at least in this first book) is a little juvenile. Even with the book being directly intended for 11 year olds I just feel that the writing style is a little too simple. Hopefully they get better as you go because I didn’t notice it as much in the Chamber of Secrets.
Now I have no more of the books so there will have to be a trip to a bookstore or library to continue with this goal.
