This particular goal has defnitely fallen to the wayside. It has been almost 2 months since I told my supervisor I would have the spreadsheet done for her. It simply hasn’t happened. I started on it tonight because it has gotten to the ridiculous stage. I will finish it tomorrow morning and send it off.
edit: okay after having a massive think about this… this really is much much much less important then studying and fulfilling the tasks for my current course. Which means that this goal is being put off until all of that is completed. This may be indefinitely however, if that’s what has to be done, then so be it.
sigh… I hate giving up on things however, I really do think that this one is for the best. The funniest thing about 43things is that achieving goals is about compromise. You work at one goal, another falls to the wayside. You cannot do everything at once. I haven’t done an extended stint of travel yet because I have been studying full time since I left school. Medicine vs. travel. Both wonderful goals, both conflicting goals. 7 months ago

I sent off the literature review, she has just sent me a few databases to clean up. Just started them and my head is spinning from the numbers. These are some really messy databases… I will finish these numbers tomorrow and then put my mind off it until tomorrow.
I also got an email regarding a paper I sent off a few months ago. Apparently it is just now before the committee for decision regarding whether it will be published or not. I shall learn of the outcome soon I hope. 9 months ago

argh, this literature review is driving me absolutely nutty. I just want to finish it and get it off my list, but it so crap, I think it will take me sitting down and just working on it for a good few hours x 4
It has to be done by this weekend though, I think I may end up secluding myself to ensure that it does. 10 months ago

I just went through a status report on refugee health in Victoria for 2011. That was a bit painful. I really help that it is useful for them.
To do for this goal
- research meeting on the 15th of June
- go through AMSJ and come up with an idea for a case study—> then write it
Going to focus on getting some med stuff done first though 12 months ago

My paper which I submitted a few months ago has just been accepted. My supervisor is the go to person for correspondence, and as I live in a healthy fear of him. I only contact him if I absolutely have to.
Anyway I contacted him the other day asking for additional research work, and he replied with
“there is not much for you. your paper was accepted yesterday”.
Brief, to the point. Almost a criticism and a compliment in one.
I met someone the other day who is going somewhere. I first met him in 2nd year where he was the year below me in med. He is still the year below me but he is currently doing his honours, tutoring lots of people and has been asked to present his research at various conferences around the world. He has also taken numerous medical trips. He was on a Fred Hollows trip in India, as well as went to the Arctic to operate on Inuit eyes.
A bit of what ambition and motivation for me.
I want to be going somewhere and this goal will help me get there. It is my drawing card.
As mentioned before I am spending this next week focusing on medicine though. Focusing on staying up to speed on study, and what is going on around me.
There are two pathways forward from now
- waiting on responses from one of the research groups
- finding a case who would be a good patient for the student journal 13 months ago

Completed a draft of experiences I had while on placement. I am going to spend 2 solid hours tomorrow polishing it and then I shall submit it.
I think after that I have to push aside this goal slightly to make room for some uni work. It’ll be a priority again soon.
Other to do
1. literature review for K, bulk it up, send it off
2. email G
3. write a case report for AMSJ
2 and 3 will definitely have to wait for at least a week before I look at it again. 13 months ago

This is a continuation of my goal “get published in a respected medical journal”. I have officially received the published version of one* of the papers I sent off. I have sent off others, but who knows when they’ll actually get published.
Anyway I enjoy research, and am keen to stay involved in various projects which are floating around. So the aim of this goal is to motivate me to stay focused with this goal and always strive to make progress through contacting and doing parcels of work for various research groups.
It is a frustrating goal at times because its not always apparent that you are making progress. Furthermore non sciency types don’t get how awesome it is to get a paper published. Makes me want to shake them, hard.
Progress on this goal so far
1/5 papers published
To do
1. paper about rural experiences for AMSJ, draft deadline tonight 10 pm
2. literature review for K
3. once the top is done, email G about further work 13 months ago
