My goal for this summer is to bike at least 4 times a week. I’d like to do it even more often, but let’s be reasonable. Anyway, I woke up today like 6 am and went biking with my husband. It was great, we will try to keep like this.

August 2007 I stared weight watchers and the gym 3x week. I lost 28 pounds and felt great for the holidays. In Jan 2008 I had an IUD put in and I’ve had horrific side effects where I had consistent cramping and bleeding that made me unable to workout and unfortunately gaining back about 10 pounds. Finally in August 2008 I started to feel back to normal again. I’m currently unemployed (and enjoying every minute of it) and I REALLY need to get this extra weight off before snowboarding starts, the holidays are right around the corner and before I start my nursing degree in Jan 2009. I’m about 214 now. My heaviest was 266 (June 2002) and my lightest 203 (Dec 2007). My healthy weight for my body type should be around 190.

I’m unmotivated for real! It’s pretty pathetic – I say I’m going to go, I even get dressed up to go to the gym, but here I sit – day after day not going. I’m going to make a small start and go once a week and work up to 4x week. Thank God I have a wonderful dog that I have to walk 2x a day, otherwise I would never walk and I might of gained even more weight. Take it day by day – that’s all I can do.

gym time 13 months ago

got my gym induction on tuesday – woop woop! the last time i signed up for a trial 6 week membership in the summer holidays and actually really enjoyed going but it was quite far away and i don’t drive and i couldn’t afford the membership but this is a student one, it works on a pay-as-you-go basis so there’s no membership fees and i’m starting off in a lot better shape that what i was in last time. think my smokers’ lungs might give me a bit of gyp at first but i’m sure i’ll be fine. plan to go 3 times a week and maybe do two classes on top of that, yoga and this class called bodyburst which is sposed to be really good for toning difficult areas like hips and thighs.

yay i’m excited!! the boyfriend lives away too so i only see him about once a month and i havent told him i’ve joined a gym, can’t wait for his reaction when he sees me after i’ve been going for a few months, mwahahha!

As a kid I wasn’t sporty… at all. Apart from riding my bike, exercise was limited to the occasional trip to the pool. So when I finally attempted to do something about it and join a gym I was, quite frankly, pathetic.

Now if I had the get-go that I so sorely need this would have been the end of it – rookie gym member to iron man in one fell swoop. Not quite. I have been a member of at least 5 different gyms. I always start from scratch after letting myself go… see a slight gain and that’s it – I do enough to see my gym membership out, quit, wait a few months and start again.

I am presently a member at a pretty swishy gym a couple of miles from home. It’s got all the bells and whistles, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, free classes, the lot. It gets pretty busy and there are still a large collection of creatine laced automatons bashing out supersets and comparing tattoos. I am smart enough to avoid eye contact of these members however.

Emma and myself started at the gym in December and, yet again it’s been pretty hit and miss. Holidays, work and all manner of other interruptions have got in the way. It’s classic Andrew.

BUT… in recent weeks Emma has started up at Weight Watchers again. As a result I am trying to cut at least some rubbish out of my diet. I also would love to cut back on the booze, not because I’m an alcoholic or anything but because of the calorie content.

We have set up a gym schedule – we will go Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday minimum. We are focussing on cardio. I’m concentrating on elipical machines and bikes. A few weeks ago I broke the 20km mark on the stationary bike. I was happy with that. I intend to start writing up my times and distances on the machines to hopefully start seeing some improvement.

I have also started the One Hundred Push up challenge – I’m keeping tabs on this over on my twitter account. Hopefully I will see some marked fitness gains in the next few weeks. I also would like to start attending some of the classes at the gym and getting at least once a week into the pool. We are paying for all of these things so I might as well use them.

I would like to feel noticeably better before December – then I can review whether or not to stay at the gym or move on to pastures new. We do have a leisure centre on about 5 minutes away from us… it’s cheaper there to.

Classes back in the mix 14 months ago

Finally started the boxing class i used to go to at my gym again.

Just another day i go now and with the added bonus of having to go because the class needs to be booked. Way hey!!

Now just to start Muay Thai and get a mountain bike (mebbe some jogging…) and i’m golden!

I used to go to the gym 4-5x a week, but I’ve had to really stop since getting back and focusing on work/school. I still do pushups & pullups twice or 3x a week but it doesn’t do quite as much to be in really good shape… ah well, one day I’ll have that time _
