The Long March was the single longest strategical retreat in the recorded history of human combat. In the early 20th century, the Communist rebels in China held a small fortress in the Jingangshan mountains.
They were surrounded and overwhelmed by the Kuomintang, and in an attempt to survive began a journey of over 3000 miles on foot. Over 100,000 people began the journey, and less than 25,000 survived. On the trip, they climbed the himilayan mountains, crossed and fought on the Luding Bridge, and braved the deep marshes of the Yangtze river delta. They finally ended up in the northern provinces of China, where they survived and eventually staged their takeover of the country.
I would like to traverse this journey.
